Job Description

The New York Public Library is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Library Page. As a Library Page, you will play a vital role in maintaining the organization and accessibility of our library materials, providing exceptional customer service to patrons, and supporting the overall mission of the library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service: Provide a positive and courteous attitude to the public by offering exceptional customer service, answering in-person inquiries, and helping patrons locate needed materials.
  • Collection Maintenance: Shelve and arrange books, CDs, DVDs, and other library materials in a neat and organized manner, ensuring easy access for patrons.
  • Patron Support: Assist patrons with basic computer, internet, and audio/visual equipment usage, and provide guidance on how to use library resources.
  • Material Preparation: Locate and prepare library materials requested by patrons, and assist staff with checking materials for damage and removing them from the shelves.
  • Event Support: Help set up public spaces for events and programs, and perform other related tasks as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: Current enrollment in a degree program at an accredited school.
  • Employment Certificate: Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law.
  • Skills: Ability to accurately and efficiently sort and arrange items in alphanumeric order, strong organizational skills, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Computer Skills: Basic computer and basic technology skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical Skills: Ability to troubleshoot basic computer and printer issues, experience with eReaders and library technologies, and ability to speak foreign languages.
