Job Description

The New York Public Library is seeking a highly skilled Library Information Assistant to provide exceptional service to patrons of all ages. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with information queries, providing circulation services, and supporting the outreach and programming activities of the Library.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Circulation and Reference Services: Assist patrons with borrowing and returning materials, answer research questions, and provide instruction on the use of print, media, and digital resources.
  • Community Outreach and Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to promote library services and programs to diverse communities, including children, teens, and adults.
  • Program Planning and Delivery: Assist in planning and delivering library programs, including workshops, author talks, and other events that promote literacy and lifelong learning.
  • Technology Support: Provide instruction and support to patrons on the use of computers, software, and other digital tools.
  • Collection Development and Maintenance: Assist with the selection, processing, and maintenance of library materials, including books, media, and digital resources.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to patrons, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a strong liberal arts background.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work well with diverse populations, and strong organizational and technical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Community Outreach and Programming: Experience developing and implementing community outreach and programming initiatives, including partnerships with community organizations and groups.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google applications, and other digital tools, as well as experience with online databases and research resources.
