The New York Public Library is seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Library Information Assistant to provide exceptional service to patrons of all ages. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with information queries, providing circulation services, and supporting the outreach and programming activities of the Library.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Circulation and Reference Services: Assist patrons with borrowing and returning materials, answer research questions, and provide instruction on the use of print, media, and digital resources.
- Community Outreach and Engagement: Promote and increase public participation and use of library services through outreach activities, partnerships, and collaborations.
- Program Planning and Delivery: Assist in planning and delivering library programs for children, teens, and adults, including instruction on the use of technology and other library services.
- Patron Support and Education: Instruct patrons on the use of the Internet, computer applications, and other library services, and ensure that patrons follow library policies and procedures.
- Facility and Operations Support: Assist with opening and closing procedures, fines and fees management, collection development, and other related duties as required.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a strong liberal arts background.
- Skills and Qualifications: Demonstrated public service experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work well with diverse patrons, and proficiency in computer and technology skills.
- Experience in Community Training and Outreach: Experience creating, conducting, and participating in community training, programming, and outreach activities.
- Language Skills: Spanish language capability.
- Public Service Library: Work in a dynamic and fast-paced public service library environment.
- Lifting and Mobility: Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and sit and stand for periods of time.
