Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Assistant to identify and acquire a diverse range of fresh produce, meats, and dry goods from local suppliers while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Generate analytical reports for management, tracking performance against key purchasing metrics.
  • Formulate specifications for equipment and supplies, advising on procurement and bidding strategies.
  • Scout for new vendors, lead negotiations, and ensure compliance with service agreements and quality standards.
  • Address order-related issues and communicate unresolved vendor concerns to culinary management.
  • Monitor market dynamics, commodity pricing, and environmental factors to adjust purchasing strategies proactively.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with farmers and suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality produce.
  • Negotiate terms and pricing with suppliers to enhance cost efficiency and profitability.
  • Work closely with the warehouse team to guarantee timely deliveries and effective inventory oversight.
  • Conduct regular quality assessments of incoming produce to maintain our high standards.
  • Explore alternative sourcing avenues for cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Verify acknowledgment details, including pricing and expected delivery timelines.
  • Ensure precise and timely reporting, analytics, and KPI metrics related to procurement activities.
  • Maintain data integrity across all procurement and inventory management systems.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or financial planning.
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory, with proof required.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Organized, punctual, and adept with technology.
  • Passionate about local food systems and nutrition.
  • Bilingual candidates, particularly in Spanish, are strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience in produce procurement or a similar role within the food sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of agricultural markets and seasonal produce.
  • Strong negotiation skills with a focus on building effective supplier relationships.
