Position Overview:
As a Senior Refugee Support Specialist, you will be instrumental in delivering ongoing, culturally sensitive assistance to asylum seekers, facilitating their resettlement without dependence on municipal housing provisions. This role is vital in the realm of social services, focusing on individuals and families navigating various adversities, including economic challenges, mental health concerns, and child welfare issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive case management support with a focus on successful resettlement strategies.
  • Assist clients in integrating into communities, minimizing reliance on city housing resources.
  • Conduct culturally appropriate assessments to identify client needs.
  • Develop tailored exit service plans that respect individual circumstances.
  • Maintain regular communication with asylum seekers at designated facilities.
  • Support clients with travel logistics and arrangements.
  • Coordinate with family members or relevant parties to eliminate travel barriers.
  • Facilitate access to community-based programs and services.
  • Document case notes and client interactions in the designated management system.
  • Collaborate with interpretation and translation services to enhance communication.
  • Refer clients to legal services for immigration assistance.
  • Perform additional duties as required to ensure effective service delivery.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in social services, particularly with vulnerable populations.
  • A minimum of 4 years in social services, including 2 years focused on refugee and asylum seeker support.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a capacity for quick learning and problem-solving.
  • Strong organizational abilities, capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Thorough understanding of immigration laws and procedures.
  • Experience in developing comprehensive resettlement plans.
  • Proficient in conducting assessments and creating service plans.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Wolof and English is required.
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence and ability to manage extensive documentation.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Awareness of the cultural and socio-economic characteristics of the service population.
  • Prior roles may include Social Worker, Case Manager, or Family Support Advocate.
