Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Purchasing Assistant to effectively source and acquire a diverse range of fresh produce, meats, and dry goods from local suppliers while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Generate comprehensive reports and conduct data analysis for management, tracking performance against key purchasing metrics.
  • Establish specifications for equipment and supplies, and recommend effective procurement and bidding strategies.
  • Identify and engage new vendors, lead negotiations, and ensure compliance with service agreements and standards.
  • Address order-related issues and manage unforeseen supply disruptions, documenting any unresolved vendor concerns for culinary management.
  • Monitor market trends, commodity pricing, and environmental factors to anticipate supply variations and adapt purchasing strategies accordingly.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers and suppliers to ensure consistent access to high-quality produce.
  • Negotiate favorable pricing and terms with suppliers to enhance cost efficiency and profitability.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel to guarantee timely deliveries and effective inventory management.
  • Conduct routine quality assessments of incoming produce to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Explore alternative sourcing opportunities to achieve cost savings and improve product quality.
  • Review and confirm acknowledgment details, including pricing and expected delivery timelines.
  • Ensure precise and timely reporting, analytics, and KPI metrics related to procurement activities.
  • Maintain data accuracy and integrity across all procurement and inventory management systems.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or financial planning.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with proof required.
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Organized, punctual, and tech-savvy problem solver.
  • Passionate about local food systems and nutrition.
  • Bilingual candidates are strongly preferred (Spanish).
  • Demonstrated experience as a produce buyer or in a similar procurement role within the food sector.
  • Thorough understanding of agricultural markets, produce varieties, and seasonal trends.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to foster effective supplier relationships.
