POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Clinical Education Coordinator collaborates with Clinical Management and Nurse Development Practitioners to design and implement educational programs and competencies for nursing staff.

This role is responsible for evaluating and addressing the educational requirements of clinical personnel through the efforts of Nurse Development Practitioners, while fostering a research-oriented environment to integrate the latest evidence-based practices into training sessions for specific audiences.

Clinical Education Coordinators are tasked with the planning, development, and execution of ongoing education initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care quality and safety.

Additionally, this position may involve serving as an instructor for essential certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and ENPC as necessary.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

A Master of Science in Nursing is required, or candidates must be enrolled in a Master's Program within the first year of employment, with the expectation of completing the degree within three years.


CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

A valid New Mexico registered nurse license is mandatory, with ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff Development preferred and required within two years. BLS certification is essential, and BLS instructor certification must be obtained within six months of employment.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Extensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices in relevant specialties
Fundamental understanding of educational methodologies, counseling, and assessment techniques
Basic leadership capabilities
High self-confidence; self-driven and detail-oriented
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously and collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations
Proficient in reading, interpreting, and executing instructions
Basic computer, research, and data management skills
Familiarity with software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Healthstream.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

With an MSN:
Minimum of one year of teaching experience in nursing and two years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care environment.

Without an MSN:

A minimum of three years of teaching experience in nursing or one year of teaching experience in nursing combined with three years of experience in an acute care setting.


SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:

Teaching experience may be unit-based or clinical ladder-based and does not necessarily require a formal teaching position.


SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Manager, Clinical Education

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposure to bloodborne pathogens:
In and/or near patient care settings 30% of the time; general office or classroom settings 70% of the time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The role requires intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting, as well as tasks related to the movement of educational materials and equipment. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary.
