Position Overview:
In collaboration with Clinical Management and interdisciplinary team members, this role involves assessing the educational requirements of both clinical and non-clinical personnel. The practitioner will engage in the creation of educational programs, conduct research to gather the latest information on relevant topics, and deliver training to specific groups, which includes theoretical instruction and practical clinical experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through analysis of participation, feedback, and assessments.
  • Facilitate workshops aimed at the professional growth of nursing staff.
  • Provide orientation and other training sessions for staff at all levels.
  • Supervise the learning experiences of staff involved in educational programs.
  • Serve as a role model for nursing and healthcare personnel by exemplifying and teaching professional conduct.
  • Participate in and deliver accredited continuing education programs to enhance professional skills.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports and maintain records of participants in educational initiatives.
  • Uphold the human and civil rights of patients, clients, and staff.
  • Engage in committee work and recruitment processes as needed.
  • Be available to work evenings or weekends based on the educational needs of the organization.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. If not yet acquired, the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within six months and provide ongoing verification of completed credits each semester as a condition of continued employment. Candidates without a completed Bachelor’s degree must have five years of experience in an acute care environment.

Licenses/Certifications: A current New Mexico registered nurse license is required; however, completion of a Bachelor’s of Nursing (BSN) along with a Master’s in Nursing, Education, Business, or a related field will substitute for the RN license. ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff Development is preferred. BLS certification is required, and BLS instructor certification is highly recommended within six months of hire.

Skills: Strong knowledge of nursing principles and practices in the relevant specialty area, foundational knowledge of teaching, counseling, and evaluation techniques. Essential leadership skills, high self-confidence, self-motivation, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are necessary. The ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and interpret instructions is essential. Basic computer, research, and data management skills are required, along with a fundamental understanding of regulatory standards and requirements.

Experience: A minimum of two years of teaching experience in nursing and five years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting is required.

Substitutions: If a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not yet obtained, an additional five years of experience in an acute care setting is necessary. Teaching experience may be unit-based or clinical ladder-based and does not have to be solely in a formal teaching position.

Supervision:
Reports to the Manager of Organizational Development.

Work Environment:
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens is present, with approximately 70% of time spent in patient care settings and 30% in general office or classroom environments.

Physical Requirements:
This role requires intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, and sitting, along with tasks related to patient care. Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling may be necessary, as well as moving educational materials and equipment for classes. Flexibility in scheduling is essential.
