Position Overview:
In collaboration with clinical leadership and multidisciplinary teams, the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner engages in the evaluation of educational requirements for both clinical and non-clinical personnel. This role is integral in the formulation of educational programs, conducting research to gather the latest insights on relevant topics, and delivering tailored curricula to specific audiences, encompassing both theoretical instruction and practical clinical experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess educational needs and develop comprehensive curricula.
  • Facilitate workshops aimed at advancing the careers of nursing professionals.
  • Provide instruction to staff across various levels during orientation and other educational initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor staff during their learning experiences.
  • Serve as a role model by exemplifying professional conduct and behaviors.
  • Participate in and deliver accredited continuing education programs to enhance professional skills.
  • Maintain accurate records of participation in educational activities and prepare necessary reports.
  • Uphold the rights of patients and staff while contributing to committee work and recruitment efforts.
  • Be available to work evenings or weekends as needed to meet the educational demands of the organization.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. If not yet obtained, the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within six months and provide ongoing verification of academic progress. Candidates without a completed degree must have five years of experience in an acute care environment.

Licenses/Certifications: A current New Mexico registered nurse license is required; however, completion of a Bachelor’s in Nursing with a Master’s in Nursing, Education, Business, or a related field may substitute for the RN license. ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff Development is preferred. BLS certification is mandatory, and BLS instructor certification is highly recommended within six months of hire.

Skills: Strong knowledge of nursing principles and practices in the relevant specialty area. Basic understanding of teaching, counseling, and evaluation techniques. Leadership capabilities, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and effective communication skills are essential. Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality in sensitive situations.

Experience: A minimum of two years of teaching experience in nursing and five years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting is required.

Supervision: Reports to the Manager of Organizational Development.

Work Environment: Primarily in patient care settings with occasional office or classroom work.

Physical Requirements: This role involves intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, and sitting, as well as occasional lifting and moving of educational materials.
