Position Overview:
In collaboration with Clinical Management and interdisciplinary team members, this role involves assessing the educational requirements of both clinical and non-clinical personnel. The practitioner will contribute to the design of educational programs, conduct research to gather the latest information on relevant topics, and deliver training to specific groups, encompassing both theoretical instruction and practical clinical experiences.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs through analysis of participant engagement, feedback, and assessments.
2. Facilitate workshops aimed at advancing the careers of nursing professionals.
3. Provide orientation and training sessions for staff at all levels.
4. Supervise the learning experiences of staff involved in educational initiatives.
5. Serve as a role model for nursing and healthcare personnel by exemplifying and teaching professional conduct.
6. Participate in and deliver accredited continuing education programs to enhance professional skills.
7. Maintain accurate records of participant involvement in educational activities.
8. Uphold the human and civil rights of patients, clients, and staff.
9. Engage in committee work and assist in recruitment processes as needed.
10. Perform additional duties as required, with potential evening or weekend work based on organizational educational needs.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred. If not yet obtained, the Nursing Professional Development Practitioner must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within six months and provide ongoing verification of completed credits on a semester basis as a condition of continued employment. Candidates without a completed Bachelor’s degree must have five years of experience in an acute care environment.

Licenses/Certifications: A current New Mexico registered nurse license is required; however, completion of a Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) along with a Master’s in Nursing, Education, Business, or a related field may substitute for the RN license. ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff Development is preferred. BLS certification is mandatory, and BLS instructor certification is highly recommended, to be obtained within six months of hire.

Skills: Strong knowledge of nursing principles and practices within the relevant specialty. Basic understanding of teaching, counseling, and evaluation methods. Effective leadership qualities; high self-confidence; self-motivated; detail-oriented; proficient in oral, written, and interpersonal communication; ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality in sensitive matters; capable of interpreting and following instructions; basic computer, research, and data management skills; and a foundational understanding of regulatory standards and requirements.

Experience: A minimum of two years of teaching experience in nursing and five years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting.

Substitutions: If a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not yet obtained, an additional five years of experience in an acute care setting is required. Teaching experience may be unit-based or clinical ladder-based and does not necessarily need to be in a formal teaching position.

Supervision:
- Reports to: Manager, Organizational Development

Work Environment:
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens: 70% in patient care settings; 30% in general office or classroom settings.

Physical Requirements:
Intermittent physical effort including walking, standing, and sitting, along with activities related to patient care. Occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling may be required. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary.
