Christus Health is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Education Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Organizational Development department, this individual will be responsible for developing and implementing educational programs to enhance the professional competence of nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with Clinical Management and interdisciplinary staff members to assess educational needs and develop curricula.
- Conduct research to obtain the most recent information on identified topics and deliver curricula to targeted groups.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of curricula through analysis of class participation, feedback, and written tests.
- Participate in workshops designed for career advancement of nursing staff and instruct staff of all levels in orientation and other programs.
- Supervise learning experiences of staff in programs and act as a role model to nursing and healthcare staff by demonstrating and teaching professional behaviors.
- Participate in and deliver approved continuing education programs to enhance professional competence and prepare and submit reports as required.
- Maintain records of those persons participating in educational programs and protect human and civil rights of patients and/or clients and staff.
- May participate on committees and in the recruitment process and perform related duties as required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred, with a requirement to enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science program in Nursing within six months if not yet obtained.
- Five years of experience in an acute care setting required for candidates without a completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
- Current New Mexico registered nurse license required, with completion of a Bachelor's of Nursing (BSN) with a Master's in Nursing, Education, Business, or another related Master's degree substituting for the RN license.
- ANCC certification in Nursing Continuing Education/Staff development preferred, with BLS certification required and BLS instructor certification highly recommended.
- Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing in the appropriate specialty serviced.
- Beginning knowledge of teaching, counseling, and evaluation principles and techniques.
- Basic leadership abilities, high degree of self-confidence, self-motivated, detail-oriented, effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas, read, interpret, and follow instructions, and beginning computer, research, and data management skills.
- Two years of teaching experience in nursing and five years of experience as an RN in an acute care setting.
- If a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, an additional five years of experience in an acute care setting is required.
- Responsible to: Manager, Organizational Development.
- Bloodborne pathogen C: In and/or near patient care setting 70%, general office or classroom setting 30%.
- Intermittent physical effort such as walking, standing, sitting, and those activities involved with patient care, occasional pushing, pulling, and lifting.
