Under general supervision, an employee in this position has the responsibility for supporting the financial services operation and activities of the Finance Department. Duties related to this position focus on performing detail-oriented accounting work involving the classifying, posting, balancing, reconciling, and summarizing of financial transactions as they relate to federal, state, local, foundation, and private grants. Duties assigned may vary according to the specific needs of the Finance Department and/or allocation of workload. This position reports to the Controller or Senior Accounting Manager.

How will I contribute
  • Maintain a system of financial accounting, reporting, and record keeping in accordance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
  • Assists Business Development, Program Managers, Controller, and other Senior Staff with pre-award budget development and performs post-award budget revision reporting for grants.
  • Responsible for budgetary control and post award compliance with federal, state, local, sponsor, and other regulations.
  • Responsible for the invoicing and reconciliation processes related to funding drawdowns from external, federal, and state agencies.
  • Responsible for post award monitoring of grant activity including cost overruns, cost sharing and unallowable administrative expenses.
  • Maintain expertise with the OMB circulars and other regulatory publications.
  • Reconciles and prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports according to generally accepted accounting procedures.
  • Codes invoices, reconciles accounts, and closes the books monthly books.
  • Prepares and maintains reimbursement expenditure reports for grants and reconciles monthly reports to funds received.
  • Maintains record of current and pending federal, state, local, foundation, and private grants.
  • Attends monthly review meetings and other periodic meetings with the Program Managers, Controller, and Staff Accountant - Financial Services
  • Assists the Controller and other finance staff with financial monitoring and reporting.
  • Assists the Controller with the preparation of the annual audit reports.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Communicate with program managers, staff, and outside contacts to provide financial and accounting information and support as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of internal control requirements.
  • Cross train on other Finance functions.
  • Flexibility to take on new tasks as the Finance Department needs change.
  • Prepare journal entries and perform account reconciliations in conjunction with monthly closing procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including project and committee work.
What I bring
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field plus 2 years' experience
  • Good working knowledge of principles, theories, concepts of financial and grant accounting
  • Proficient in Excel, accounting systems and other computer programs depending on job requirements.
  • Manage multiple projects and anticipate information needs of management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic and practice of One Team style as well as an ability to maintain healthy accountability for your respective job duties.
