Dynamic, veteran-owned moving and storage business headquartered in Lorton, VA seeks experienced Operations Manager to oversee Dispatchers and Local Crews as well as to coordinate daily operational activities regarding the movement of household goods.  As the Operations Manager, you will be in direct daily contact with various staff members, valued customers, and vendors to ensure company standards are being upheld, sufficient materials are on-hand, and necessary equipment is operational.  Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages scheduling and dispatching of crews to ensure all necessary labor, materials, and equipment arrive at each job site in a timely manner
  • Monitors performance and staffing levels of field personnel and coordinates with HR and Training/QC Departments for recruiting, training, counseling, promotion and/or termination
  • Upholds and enforces company standards and policies such as attendance and uniforms
  • Trains and manages Dispatchers who are responsible for daily scheduling and dispatching of field personnel
  • Ensures truck checks are conducted daily upon their return to base for cleanliness, maintenance, and security reasons
  • Maintains material inventories and places orders for supplies
  • Coordinates with Fleet manager to maintain fleet and equipment readiness
  • Enters and updates CRM system with job and/or employee information, changes, updates, and/or notes
  • Schedules local military deliveries out of storage
  • Serves as primary point of contact for various requests, such as for time off and promotions

This position requires strong leadership, motivation, and discipline, as well as a positive, service-oriented attitude, exceptional problem-solving skills, and an ability to physically assist both movers and packers with their daily responsibilities as may be necessary in a demanding work environment.

Additional Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in the household goods (HHG)/relocation industry or similar transportation-related experience
  • Valid Class A driver’s license (or the ability and motivation to obtain one) with no major violations or at fault accidents in the last 3 years
  • Previous dispatching, or similar management, experience
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. without assistance
  • A “lead by example” mindset with an always positive outlook
