New Horizons is seeking an exceptional Engagement Services Coordinator: Apprenticeships to coordinate our in-house Apprentice program, staff the daily operations of Day Program, and develop/facilitate consistent engagement programming to be conducted during Day Program. The ESC: Apprenticeship will join our direct service team that is dedicated to the development and well-being of young people 25 & under who are experiencing homelessness, partnering with them to reach their full potential, and secure stable housing.  


Staff Day Program work schedule is Monday-Thursday, 11:00 am - 9:00 (4-day work week/10-hour day schedule). 


Primary Responsibilities 

 

Day Program Staffing 

  • Foster a warm and welcoming environment for youth & young adults (YYA) to get their basic needs met, engage with support systems, and get connected to resources  
  • Proactively engage YYA through intentional conversations and engaging activities   
  • Work in collaboration with the other staff on the floor to ensure all aspects of program are covered  
  • Regularly communicate and model expectations and safety protocols for YYA  
  • Apply consequences and hotlist protocol  
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the program space 

Coordination of Apprenticeship Program  

  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise up to 5 in-house Apprentices (clients who work alongside Staff in a paid job-experience program)  
  • Oversee Apprentices’ daily tasks of set-up, tear-down, serving lunch, sanitation of the space, and supporting with program operations  
  • Collect Apprentice timesheets and create check-requests for stipends  
  • Provide on-the-job coaching to Apprentices to support with their professional growth  
  • Support Apprentices to secure further employment by the end of their Apprenticeship timeline  
  • Diligently communicate with internal Staff about Apprenticeship schedules and expectations 

General Employment Support  

  • Stay abreast of employment opportunities for YYA and communicate those out on a regular basis  
  • Support non-Apprentice clients with employment support; resumes, job applications, and referrals while in Day Program  
  • Develop ideas around how to better support general YYA with employment 

Engagement Services Growth & Development 

  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Day Programming, and the Engagement Services Team to develop new programming (employment, or otherwise) to drive engagement  
  • Monitor effectiveness of programming, and generate ideas on how to make improvements  


Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) 

  • Experience providing culturally responsive services and quality care to YYA in marginalized groups
  • Non-judgmental and enthusiastic attitude about engaging with young people across the spectrum of religious and spiritual beliefs, race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation and gender 
  • Strong track record applying the principles of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development 
  • Strong track record of applying Conflict De-escalation  
  • Understanding of Mental Health First Aid  
  • A history of successful teamwork  
  • Proficient with computers and technology including using the Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint and Outlook) 
  • Ability to work into the evenings (as late as 10pm)  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Three or more years of experience working with unhoused youth and young adults 
  • Experience providing employment support  
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or another closely related field 


Wage: $26 per hour, plus benefits
