GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Salvation Army is a division of the Christian Church, dedicated to the spiritual renewal of individuals through various programs.


ROLE FUNCTION:

As the Senior Center Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of programs that cater to the needs of seniors attending the center. Your role will involve coordinating activities, planning daily events, managing the program budget, maintaining necessary records, preparing reports, and recruiting volunteers.

Additionally, you may represent the senior center within the community and organize fundraising initiatives.


WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday with occasional evening, weekend, and holiday commitments. Flexible hours are available, typically from 7 am – 3:30 pm or 7:30 am – 4 pm.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma is required, along with a proven ability to manage and coordinate activities for the senior demographic. Experience in social services or senior care is preferred but not mandatory. Proficiency in reading and writing in English is essential, as is the ability to engage with clients from diverse backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid WA Driver License. A clear Motor Vehicle Records check is required. Compliance with child protection policies of The Salvation Army is mandatory. Candidates should have an understanding of and alignment with The Salvation Army's mission and practices. Familiarity with photography and videography tools, as well as social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, is beneficial. The ability to plan, lead, and assess volunteer activities is essential, along with the capability to work independently or collaboratively with staff. Remaining composed in challenging situations is crucial.

Preferred certifications include First Aid & CPR, Food Handlers permit, and Bloodborne Pathogens training (which can be obtained within the first 90 days of employment). Experience in a supervisory or team-oriented role is advantageous. Strong leadership, attention to detail, and teamwork skills are essential. Excellent customer service and networking abilities, along with a positive and unbiased communication style with clients, are required. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism is necessary.


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration:
Maintain attendance and program statistics. Prepare monthly reports. Manage the receipt and deposit of all program fees and donations daily. Handle public relations and promotional activities for the Senior Center as approved by the Officers. Develop informational materials for new programs and stay updated on new techniques and equipment.

Program Development:
Create high-quality programs tailored to the needs of seniors. Establish evaluation processes for instructors and programs. Assist with community center programs as required.

Volunteer Management:
Recruit and train volunteers to support the senior center's administration. Provide oversight for volunteers, including task assignments, scheduling, and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Community Outreach:
Establish connections with external agencies that provide services to seniors. Visit seniors who are unable to participate in center activities.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook. Ability to learn data entry skills necessary for client management.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously. Capability to lift up to 20 lbs. Qualified individuals must be able to perform essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
