Position Overview

This position is essential to Teaspoon's success by managing a team of baristas to nurture and maintain the Teaspoon Experience for our clientele and partners. As a Retail Operations Supervisor, you will regularly exercise judgment in overseeing the store's overall functioning. This encompasses supervising and guiding the workforce, making staffing decisions such as recruitment, training, assessment, and scheduling, ensuring customer satisfaction and product excellence, managing the store's financial performance, and upholding safety and security protocols. The individual in this role is expected to embody and uphold Teaspoon's core values in all actions and decisions.

Key Responsibilities

As a Retail Operations Supervisor at Teaspoon, you will be instrumental in leading and managing the store team to ensure operational excellence and deliver an outstanding customer experience. Key responsibilities include:

Leadership:
  • Establish clear objectives for the team, enhance organizational capability, and exemplify collaborative work dynamics.
  • Maintain composure during peak periods or unexpected events, ensuring seamless transitions to uphold store operations and set a positive example for the team.
  • Promote a customer-first mindset by training and holding baristas accountable for providing exceptional service.
  • Drive the execution of company initiatives through the development of action plans and direct motivation and guidance to the store team.
  • Manage with integrity, transparency, and a commitment to fostering the culture, values, and mission of Teaspoon.
  • Plan, identify, communicate, and delegate appropriate responsibilities and practices to the store team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Provide coaching and direction to the store team, encouraging them to act and achieve operational objectives.
  • Continuously assess the store environment and key business indicators to identify challenges, concerns, and opportunities.
Strategic Planning and Execution:
  • Formulate strategic and operational plans for the team, manage execution, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Oversee and manage store staffing levels to ensure barista development and talent acquisition, meeting and maintaining operational requirements.
  • Utilize existing tools to prioritize communications, ensuring clear, concise, and accurate information is conveyed to the store team for effective operations.
Business Management:
  • Ensure compliance with applicable wage and hour regulations for nonexempt partners and minors.
  • Gather customer feedback and proactively research local markets to understand customer and community needs.
  • Employ operational tools such as Scheduling Software, Monthly Status Reports, Quarterly Business Reviews, cash management, and inventory management to achieve operational excellence.
  • Utilize management information tools and analyze financial reports to identify and address trends and issues in store performance.
Team Development and Culture Building:
  • Actively manage the store team through regular performance evaluations, feedback sessions, and goal setting.
  • Inspire and challenge the store team to achieve business outcomes.
  • Ensure team members comply with legal and operational standards.
  • Acknowledge and celebrate individual and team achievements through creative and effective methods.
  • Apply effective management principles and practices to foster a positive team culture.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience managing a fast-paced, high-volume, customer service-oriented business, preferably in food service or retail.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the financial health of retail operations, including P&L oversight, revenue generation, and cost management.
  • Proven track record of creating an inclusive and dynamic team environment.
  • Proactive, self-motivated individual capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of operational dynamics.
  • Proven ability to recruit, motivate, train, and retain team members effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Work Schedule:
  • Retail Operations Supervisors must work a minimum of 20-40 hours a week.
  • Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Schedule may vary based on business needs.
Physical Requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to:
  • Operate various machines, tools, and equipment as required for the job.
  • Maintain visual acuity to make general observations regarding safety and accuracy of work.
  • Remain in a stationary position for a minimum of 3 hours during work shifts.
  • Stand, walk, stoop, and kneel as necessary to perform job duties.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds intermittently and repetitively lift objects weighing 3 pounds to shoulder height.
  • Utilize hand dexterity to grasp, finger, and reach items.
  • Express or exchange information verbally as needed for job-related communication.
Additional Requirements:
  • Have a reliable method of transportation for catering events, bank runs, etc.
  • Proficient in using email, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office.
  • Positive and professional attitude.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cohesively with all levels of management, all departments, and all co-workers in a team environment.

Compensation

$26-$30 hourly rate - Based on experience

This position qualifies for participation in the Teaspoon Bonus Program, where Retail Operations Supervisors are rewarded based on PNL metrics.
