The Retail Operations Supervisor collaborates with the Store General Manager to manage the personnel and procedures involved in the daily functions of the retail establishment, which includes customer engagement, inventory management, merchandising, financial oversight, and documentation. This role is crucial in ensuring operational efficiency and maintaining standards of organization and safety within the store. In the absence of the Store General Manager, the Retail Operations Supervisor assumes full responsibility for all store activities.

Key Responsibilities

Manages and implements the overall operations of the retail store in conjunction with the Store General Manager. Conducts daily administrative tasks related to store operations, including cash handling, supply ordering, and managing store hours. Works a flexible schedule to support store opening, operational activities, and closing, including weekends and holidays. Aids in supervising and training staff, including creating work schedules for team members. Capable of performing all roles of retail staff as necessary, including greeting donors, safely unloading donations, issuing donor receipts, sorting items, handling cash transactions, maintaining a tidy sales floor, assisting customers, and performing store maintenance tasks. Fosters an environment of exceptional customer service for both internal and external stakeholders. Oversees the donation process, ensuring compliance with security and audit procedures. Monitors sales transactions and ensures adherence to proper sales protocols. Maintains appropriate staffing levels in production and on the sales floor while managing payroll expenses in line with budget. This includes training new employees in accordance with company policies. Ensures the store is organized and well-equipped to meet all financial requirements. Maintains effective communication via email, phone, and in-person with other departments and stores as necessary. Collaborates with employment and training programs to support the organizational mission. Addresses customer inquiries and resolves complaints effectively. Ensures a safe environment for both customers and staff. Upholds and enforces company policies and standards, including compliance programs. Completes necessary documentation and reports promptly and efficiently, adhering to the supervisor's work schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position oversees retail staff, including Supervisors, Donation Attendants, Processors, and Sales Associates.

Required Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years of progressive management experience in retail, supervising multiple departments or staff. At least five years of experience in retail or a related field. Experience in selecting, assessing, coaching, and developing team members, preferably in a retail context. Proficient in scheduling and managing staff assignments. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Basic math and computer proficiency. Comprehensive knowledge of the thrift and resale industry, with the ability to respond to competitive dynamics. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including integrity, respect for all individuals, critical thinking, and appreciation for diversity.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments. Capability to perform continuous walking, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods (up to 7 hours in an 8-hour shift). Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Moderate noise levels typical of a business office environment. Ability to work in confined spaces. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision for computer tasks.
