The Retail Operations Supervisor collaborates with the Retail General Manager to manage the staff and processes associated with the daily functions of the retail establishment. This includes overseeing customer interactions, inventory management, merchandising, financial oversight, and documentation. The Retail Operations Supervisor plays a crucial role in enhancing overall operational efficiency and maintaining standards for store organization and safety. In the absence of the Retail General Manager, this position assumes full responsibility for store operations.

Key Responsibilities

Partners with the Retail General Manager to oversee and implement the overall operations of the retail store. Conducts daily administrative tasks related to store operations, including cash handling, supply orders, and managing store hours. Works a flexible schedule to support store opening, operational production, and closing, including weekends and holidays. Assists in supervising and training employees, including creating work schedules. Capable of performing all roles within the retail environment as needed, including greeting customers, safely handling donations, processing receipts, sorting items, managing cash transactions, maintaining a tidy sales floor, assisting customers with purchases, and performing store maintenance tasks. Fosters an environment of exceptional customer service for both internal and external stakeholders. Monitors and ensures a seamless process for all donation activities while adhering to security protocols and audit procedures. Oversees sales transactions and ensures compliance with established sales procedures. Maintains appropriate staffing levels in production and on the sales floor while managing payroll expenses within budget. This includes training new staff in accordance with company policies. Ensures the store is organized and well-equipped to meet all budgetary requirements. Maintains effective communication via email, phone, and in-person with other departments and stores as necessary. Collaborates with employment and training programs to support the organization's mission. Addresses customer inquiries and resolves complaints effectively. Upholds a safe environment for both customers and employees. Enforces company policies and standards, including compliance with corporate regulations. Completes necessary documentation and reports promptly and adheres to the work schedule set by supervisors. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Duties

This role includes supervisory responsibilities over retail staff, including Supervisors, Donation Attendants, Processors, and Sales Associates.

Required Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. At least two years of progressive management experience in retail, supervising multiple departments or staff. Minimum of five years of experience in retail or a related field. Experience in selecting, assessing, coaching, and developing staff, preferably in a retail setting. Proficient in scheduling and managing store staff. Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Basic math and computer proficiency. Comprehensive knowledge of the thrift and resale industry, with the ability to respond to competitive challenges. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including integrity, respect for all individuals, critical thinking, and appreciation for diversity.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled environments. Capable of continuous walking, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift). Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Moderate noise levels typical of a business office environment. Ability to work in confined spaces. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision for computer work.
