Job Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer position is pivotal in achieving functional, business, and overarching company goals. In this capacity, you will utilize your expertise in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) to assist in the development and management of technical objectives across various aircraft platforms within GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation.

Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field that emphasizes a structured approach, mindset, and process. It encompasses all activities that address both the business and technical requirements of clients, aiming to deliver a high-quality product that fulfills user expectations. This discipline involves a comprehensive process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, which includes identifying and quantifying system requirements, generating alternative design concepts, conducting design trade studies, selecting and implementing optimal designs, and ensuring proper integration and execution of the design. The process spans from concept through production to operational phases.

This role significantly influences departmental operations and is responsible for planning and execution. While there is a degree of autonomy, the focus remains on the technical execution of team objectives as well as individual tasks within established design procedures, practices, and plans. Strong judgment and leadership capabilities are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

This role entails leading, guiding, and contributing to the systems engineering initiatives across GE's Common Core Systems. You will be accountable for assigned systems engineering tasks related to the IMA product line. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA and Federated computing products/technologies.
  • Formulating and executing systems development and verification plans in alignment with GE Aviation protocols.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders on new initiatives.
  • Creating architectural designs and conducting trade studies to meet customer specifications.
  • Providing training to Systems Engineers on the systems engineering methodology.
  • Promoting and supporting engineering reuse within the Computing Systems product line.
  • Offering technical leadership and guidance to project teams to ensure adherence to cost, quality, schedule, and technical objectives.
  • Ensuring timely delivery of systems requirements, integrated validation/verification activities, and resolution of issues.
  • Facilitating the initiation of new projects to ensure thorough planning in accordance with the product roadmap and engineering process requirements.
  • Leading interdisciplinary collaboration with software, hardware, testing, safety, maintainability, reliability, and certification teams.
  • Promptly escalating issues requiring additional engineering or business leadership support.
  • Utilizing judgment to make decisions or resolve moderately complex challenges in operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
  • Applying innovative perspectives to existing solutions.
  • Leveraging technical expertise for data analysis to support informed recommendations.
  • Acting as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • Possibly leading small projects with moderate risks and resource demands.
  • Communicating complex or sensitive information effectively and working towards consensus.
  • Developing persuasive skills to influence others on relevant topics.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Electrical, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in design & development and/or technical project leadership within an engineering product development context.
  • Background in Avionics Systems Engineering Processes - ARP4754A, ARP4761, or equivalent.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is mandatory. We do not sponsor individuals for employment visas for this job opening.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology. Proof of status will be required prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Experience managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B Environment.
  • Familiarity with DO-297, DO-178, DO-254, and/or DO-330 process assurance.
  • Prior experience with A653 partition-based operating systems.
  • Knowledge of networking products or data concentrator systems.
  • Understanding of interfaces including but not limited to analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
  • Experience with engineering processes such as requirements definition, allocation, validation, verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
  • Able to engage directly with senior leadership within and outside the organization.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in the development, integration, validation, and verification of systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead programs/projects effectively.
  • Competence in documenting, planning, marketing, and executing programs.
  • Established project management capabilities.
Work Environment:

This position allows for a hybrid work model, with three days per week on-site. Corporate relocation assistance is available.
