Job Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer position is pivotal in achieving functional, business, and overarching corporate goals. In this capacity, you will utilize your expertise in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) to assist GE Aviation's Common Core Systems team in formulating and overseeing technical objectives across various aircraft platforms.


Role Responsibilities

This role encompasses leading, guiding, and contributing to systems engineering initiatives within GE's Common Core Systems. You will hold accountability for designated systems engineering responsibilities pertaining to the IMA product line, offering technical leadership, mentorship, and support to project teams to ensure they meet cost, quality, schedule, and technical targets.


Key Duties Include:
  • Overseeing the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA and Federated computing products/technologies.
  • Formulating and executing systems development and verification strategies in alignment with GE Aviation protocols.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders on new initiatives.
  • Creating architectural frameworks and conducting trade studies to meet customer specifications.
  • Facilitating cross-training for Systems Engineers in the systems engineering methodology.
  • Promoting and supporting engineering reuse within the Computing Systems product line.
  • Providing technical direction and support for teams managing projects within the product line, including project planning, conducting reviews, and managing metrics and risks.
  • Ensuring the timely delivery of systems requirements and integrated validation/verification activities.
  • Assisting in the initiation of new projects to ensure proper planning in accordance with product roadmaps and engineering process requirements.
  • Leading interdisciplinary collaboration with software, hardware, testing, safety, maintainability, reliability, and certification teams.
  • Timely escalation of issues requiring additional engineering or business leadership intervention.
  • Utilizing sound judgment to address moderately complex operational or engineering challenges.
  • Offering insights and fresh perspectives on existing solutions.
  • Employing technical expertise for data analysis to inform recommendations.
  • Acting as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • Possibly leading smaller projects with moderate risks and resource demands.
  • Effectively communicating complex or sensitive information and fostering consensus.
  • Developing persuasive skills to influence others within the field.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering – Electrical, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in design & development or technical project leadership within an engineering product development context.
  • Background in Avionics Systems Engineering Processes – ARP4754A, ARP4761, or equivalent.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is mandatory.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology.

Preferred Attributes
  • Experience managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B Environment.
  • Familiarity with DO-297, DO-178, DO-254, and/or DO-330 process assurance.
  • Prior experience with A653 partition-based operating systems.
  • Knowledge of networking products or data concentrator systems.
  • Understanding of interfaces including but not limited to analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
  • Experience with engineering processes such as requirements definition, validation, verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, and system safety.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in the development, integration, validation, and verification of systems.
  • Established project management capabilities.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work model, with three days per week on-site and the option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
