The Principal Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in steering a team through the comprehensive systems engineering lifecycle, ensuring alignment with overarching business goals, project milestones, and client expectations. This position requires expertise in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) to support the development and management of technical objectives across various aircraft platforms.

Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field focused on the design, integration, verification, and management of complex systems throughout their life cycles. This role emphasizes understanding system requirements and ensuring that all components meet these needs effectively. It encompasses a holistic approach that considers hardware, software, user interactions, processes, and the operational context.

In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Designing system architectures, requirements, interfaces, and conducting integration, testing, and verification of sophisticated hardware/software systems for aviation.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and influencing departmental operations through strategic planning, execution, and project performance management.
  • Driving technical execution and ensuring adherence to established design protocols and practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA technologies.
  • Formulate and implement systems development and verification strategies in line with GE Aviation standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders on new initiatives.
  • Conduct architecture assessments and trade studies to meet customer specifications.
  • Provide mentorship and cross-training to fellow Systems Engineers.
  • Promote engineering reuse within the IMA product line.
  • Deliver technical leadership to project teams, ensuring successful project planning, review processes, and risk management.
  • Guarantee timely delivery of systems requirements and integrated validation/verification activities.
  • Facilitate the initiation of new projects, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps and engineering requirements.
  • Lead interdisciplinary collaboration with software, hardware, testing, safety, and certification teams.
  • Escalate complex issues requiring additional engineering or business leadership support.
  • Utilize sound judgment to address challenges in operational management, technology, or engineering.
  • Encourage innovative thinking and optimization of existing solutions.
  • Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • May lead smaller projects with moderate risks and resource needs.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in design, development, or technical project leadership within an engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles related to design, requirements, and verification.
  • Proficient knowledge of avionics maintainability and testability software.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing other engineers.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Willingness to travel a minimum of 10% of the time.

Desired Skills:
  • Familiarity with Boeing 777x and 787x aircraft systems.
  • Experience in managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A Environment.
  • Knowledge of DO-297, ARP 4754A, DO-178, DO-254, and/or DO-330 process assurance.
  • Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition, validation, verification, and system safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership.
  • Proven track record of leading teams in system development and integration.
