Job Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer position is responsible for achieving functional, business, and overarching corporate goals. In this capacity, you will utilize your expertise in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) to assist GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation in formulating and overseeing technical objectives across various aircraft platforms.

Systems engineering is a multidisciplinary field that emphasizes a systematic approach, mindset, and process. It encompasses all activities that address both the business and technical requirements of clients, aiming to deliver a high-quality product that satisfies user expectations. This discipline involves a thorough process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, which includes identifying and quantifying system requirements, developing alternative design concepts, conducting design trade studies, selecting and implementing optimal designs, and ensuring proper integration and execution of the design. The process spans from conception to production and operation.

This role influences departmental operations and is accountable for planning and execution. While the position allows for some autonomy, it primarily focuses on the technical execution of team and individually assigned tasks within the established design procedures, practices, and plans. Strong judgment and leadership capabilities are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

This role entails leading, guiding, and contributing to the systems engineering initiatives within GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation. You will be accountable for specific systems engineering responsibilities associated with the IMA product line. This position offers technical leadership, mentorship, and support to project teams to ensure they meet cost, quality, schedule, and technical objectives.

This opportunity allows for a hybrid work model, with flexibility to work on-site and remotely as needed.

Essential Duties:
  • Oversee the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA and Federated computing products/technologies.
  • Develop and implement systems development and verification plans in line with GE Aviation standards.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders on new initiatives.
  • Create architecture and conduct trade studies to meet customer specifications.
  • Provide cross-training for Systems Engineers in the systems engineering methodology.
  • Promote and support engineering reuse within the Computing Systems product line.
  • Deliver technical leadership and direction to project teams, including support for project planning, conducting reviews, metrics development/tracking, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Ensure timely completion of systems requirements, integrated validation/verification activities, and issue resolution.
  • Support the initiation of new projects to ensure they are well-planned in accordance with the product roadmap and engineering process requirements.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration with software, hardware, testing, safety, maintainability, reliability, and certification teams.
  • Timely escalate issues requiring additional engineering or business leadership intervention.
  • Utilize judgment to address moderately complex tasks or challenges in operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
  • Offer new perspectives on existing solutions.
  • Employ technical expertise for data analysis to support informed recommendations.
  • Utilize various internal and limited external sources to make decisions.
  • Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • May lead smaller projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.
  • Communicate complex or sensitive information effectively; work towards consensus.
  • Develop persuasive skills necessary to influence others on relevant topics.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering - Electrical, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in design & development and/or technical project leadership within an engineering product development context.
  • Background in Avionics Systems Engineering Processes - ARP4754A, ARP4761, or similar.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Sponsorship for employment visas is not available for this position.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B Environment.
  • Familiarity with DO-297, DO-178, DO-254, and/or DO-330 process assurance.
  • Prior experience with A653 partition-based operating systems.
  • Knowledge of networking products or data concentrator systems.
  • Understanding of interfaces including but not limited to analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
  • Experience with engineering processes such as requirements definition, validation, verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
  • Able to communicate effectively with senior leadership both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in the development, integration, validation, and verification of systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven interpersonal and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues effectively.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead programs/projects.
  • Skills in documentation, planning, marketing, and execution of programs.
  • Established project management expertise.

This position offers a hybrid work model, with 3 days per week on-site and optional remote work on other days.
