Job Overview

The Senior Systems Engineer position is pivotal in achieving functional, business, and overarching corporate goals. In this capacity, you will utilize your expertise in Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) to assist GE Aviation's Common Core Systems team in formulating and overseeing technical objectives across various aircraft platforms.


Role Responsibilities

This role entails leading, mentoring, and actively participating in the systems engineering initiatives within GE's Common Core Systems. You will be accountable for specific systems engineering responsibilities related to the IMA product line, providing technical guidance and support to project teams to ensure they meet cost, quality, schedule, and technical targets.


Key Duties Include:
  • Overseeing the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA and Federated computing technologies.
  • Formulating and implementing systems development and verification strategies in line with GE Aviation protocols.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders on new initiatives.
  • Creating architectural designs and conducting trade studies to meet customer specifications.
  • Training Systems Engineers in the systems engineering methodology.
  • Promoting and facilitating engineering reuse within the Computing Systems product line.
  • Providing technical leadership and direction to project teams, including project planning, review processes, metrics development, and risk management.
  • Ensuring the timely completion of systems requirements and integrated validation/verification tasks.
  • Supporting the initiation of new projects to ensure they align with the product roadmap and engineering process requirements.
  • Leading interdisciplinary collaboration with software, hardware, testing, safety, maintainability, reliability, and certification teams.
  • Timely escalation of issues requiring additional engineering or business leadership support.
  • Utilizing sound judgment to address moderately complex operational or engineering challenges.
  • Offering fresh perspectives on existing solutions.
  • Employing technical expertise for data analysis to inform recommendations.
  • Acting as a resource for less experienced colleagues.
  • Possibly leading smaller projects with moderate risks and resource needs.
  • Communicating complex or sensitive information effectively to build consensus.
  • Developing persuasive skills to influence discussions within your area of expertise.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering – Electrical, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in design & development or technical project leadership within an engineering product development setting.
  • Background in Avionics Systems Engineering Processes – ARP4754A, ARP4761, or equivalent.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is essential. Sponsorship for employment visas is not available for this position.
  • This role is limited to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology. Proof of status will be required prior to employment.

Preferred Attributes:
  • Experience managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B Environment.
  • Familiarity with DO-297, DO-178, DO-254, and/or DO-330 process assurance.
  • Prior involvement with A653 partition-based operating systems.
  • Knowledge of networking products or data concentrator systems.
  • Understanding of interfaces such as analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
  • Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition, validation, verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, and system safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership both internally and externally.
  • Proven capability to lead teams in the development, integration, validation, and verification of systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
  • Proven project management skills.

Work Environment:

This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring three days on-site and flexibility for remote work on other days.
