Position Overview:

Primary Role:

The Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the evaluation and underwriting of Direct Loans and various credit exposures to non-investment grade borrowers owned by Private Equity, spanning from middle-market to large corporate entities within the Sponsor Finance & Direct Lending division. The Analyst will also assist in Originations (Financial Sponsor coverage), Syndications, Monitoring, and managing relationships with Sponsor portfolio companies through assigned tasks within the unit.

The Analyst will be a key player in corporate finance, aiding in Sponsor Finance & Direct Lending, which includes transaction origination and credit analysis for non-investment grade entities. Essential duties involve assessing risk factors associated with each credit and determining appropriate risk ratings in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Responsibilities encompass active credit management and monitoring for potential upgrades, downgrades, or general credit deterioration, aiming to maximize the bank's net income while minimizing credit costs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the credit analysis and management of the Sponsor/Direct Lending division.
  • Conduct due diligence on new transactions and regularly evaluate the existing loan portfolio.
  • Support the evaluation, structuring, and negotiation of terms and credit agreements with Sponsor clients.
  • Contribute to the preparation of comprehensive credit analyses and necessary credit applications, adhering to internal policies and regulatory standards, including the assessment of company-specific, industry, and regulatory risks, as well as historical and projected operating performance and capital structure.
  • Utilize modeling skills for both the credit application process and quarterly review presentations.
  • Assist the coverage team in generating ideas and preparing pitch books for Sponsor clients and potential clients, attending client meetings as required.
  • Support the syndication strategy, including lender presentations and liaising with participant lenders, such as banks and private credit firms.
  • Coordinate and communicate account information across various departments within the organization.
  • Maintain generalist coverage responsibilities, understanding current industry conditions relevant to the assigned portfolio using internal and external resources.
  • Oversee facility closing procedures, including operations and documentation.
Advanced Client Solutions:
  • Collaborate within a deal team environment (with GRM, Corporate Advisory, Capital Markets, and Syndications) to support the development and analysis of financing structures and strategies, including leveraged capital markets and other product areas.
  • Assist in credit analysis for structured credit transactions (derivatives transactions, margin lending, receivable securitizations, supply chain finance).
  • Maintain knowledge of industries represented in the portfolio, including technical aspects and regulatory issues.
  • Participate in client and bank meetings as necessary.
Policy and Transaction Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate communication with the credit approval division, ensuring alignment of risk strategy and policy.
  • Evaluate and establish appropriate ratings for transactions, correlating exposure levels on both transaction and group levels.
  • Ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree; CFA candidacy is advantageous.
  • Experience in financial institutions or a related credit risk function analyzing corporate clients.
  • Understanding of accounting and corporate finance principles.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong financial modeling capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Able to work independently and manage pressure effectively.
The typical base pay range for this role is between $105k-$130k+, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
