Job Overview

WSP is actively seeking a full-time Senior Project Manager - Civil Engineering for Renewable Energy. This role is integral to our Clean Energy Business Line, focusing on providing expert advisory and engineering services to clients in the hydropower and utility sectors across the nation.

Position Highlights:

This role plays a crucial part in addressing Climate Change by assisting owners and operators of clean hydropower and integrating renewable energy resources. You will provide Civil Engineering and Project Management expertise, including high-level technical support for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of hydropower infrastructure and related energy projects. Responsibilities include project planning, budget management, schedule creation, and scope development. You will oversee multiple discipline task leaders and engage in negotiations with clients and their representatives. Additionally, you will supervise the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of energy facilities, specifically hydropower, along with solar, wind, or biomass power plants, as well as transmission and distribution facilities.

Your Contributions:

Lead a variety of Civil Engineering projects, including planning and conducting inspections and investigations on hydropower structures and other renewable energy developments. Assess the safety and efficacy of these facilities, execute rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, and oversee new design and construction projects.

Technical Responsibilities:
  • Manage complex projects with varying objectives and tight timelines.
  • Lead hydropower projects, including dam safety, spillway, tunnels, and seismic remediation initiatives.
  • Enhance client relationships and collaborate closely with key client relationship managers, supporting project pursuits through budget estimation, scope definition, and scheduling.
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Organize, lead, and supervise a team to achieve organizational growth goals.
  • Conduct performance analysis and provide constructive feedback for internal development.
  • Manage project resources and team member allocation for specific projects.
  • Mentor and guide team members in project management and Civil Engineering.
  • Engage in business development initiatives within the transmission line market.
Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
  • Proficient in technical computations and calculations, with a solid understanding of engineering principles and specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated self-leadership and the ability to interact effectively with clients, regulators, project managers, and team members.
  • Experience in providing critical reviews for complex documents and preparing technical deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge in practical scenarios.
  • Proficient in directing subcontractors and ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Familiarity with technical writing and design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and others.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality work that meets or exceeds industry standards.
Required Qualifications:
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in hydropower engineering and design.
  • Engineering license or the ability to obtain one within a year.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying schedules and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for project requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • PMP Certification.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER).
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
