Senior Academic Guidance Coordinator

The University of Oklahoma is in search of a Senior Academic Guidance Coordinator. This role entails providing strategic leadership and oversight, which includes managing the advising center, enhancing student support initiatives, and overseeing program administration. The Senior Academic Guidance Coordinator will act as a pivotal campus leader and an engaged member of the Provost's Advisory Committee on Academic Advising's (PACAA) Advising Leadership Council. Additionally, this position encompasses various administrative, advisory, and counseling responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Directing and managing all functions of the academic advising unit.
  • Implementing equitable hiring and supervisory practices in alignment with Human Resource policies.
  • Facilitating comprehensive onboarding training to ensure advising professionals are knowledgeable about university, state, and federal regulations.
  • Leading initiatives to improve the delivery and quality of academic advising services.
  • Creating a supportive community that prioritizes respectful relationships among staff, students, faculty, and administrative leadership.
  • Providing guidance and consultation for effective management of daily student interactions.
  • Encouraging advising team members to pursue professional development opportunities that enhance their expertise, promote career growth, and encourage best practices.
  • Monitoring student enrollment and making informed decisions regarding advisor assignments.
  • Tracking policy modifications that affect degree progression and completion.
  • Utilizing advanced problem-solving and decision-making skills to address complex student cases.
  • Coordinating complete withdrawal petitions and college enrollment decisions in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Engaging with strategies, tools, and technologies aimed at student retention, along with methods of reporting.
  • Organizing student programming to ensure students are connected with departmental resources and engagement activities.
  • Collaborating with the Office of Admissions and Recruitment to highlight academic majors and degree options for prospective students.
  • Representing the advising unit at significant events organized by campus partners.
  • Overseeing departmental operations, including budget management.
  • Establishing unit outcomes, designing metrics, and collecting and analyzing data to enhance effective advising practices.
  • Identifying critical issues and areas for ongoing improvement.
  • Managing administrative responsibilities such as time and leave, office coverage, and other personnel matters.
  • Maintaining direct communication with the Associate Provost for Academic Advising to ensure alignment with campus strategic initiatives.
  • Actively participating as a member of PACA's Advising Leadership Council to identify essential needs, shape best practices, and consistently pursue high standards of excellence.
  • Committing time and resources to the development of expertise and continuous professional growth.
  • Serving as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) by fulfilling training and reporting obligations related to campus safety protocols.
  • Performing various duties as necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
