CAMBA's Kings Inn Family Shelter is a facility funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services, providing a supportive and structured environment for families. Our shelter accommodates 100 families in a transitional residence program, offering comprehensive case management services. The facility features various room sizes, communal areas, and on-site security and social services.

Position: Activities Supervisor
Reports To: Recreation Supervisor
Location: Queens, NY

Key Responsibilities: The individual in this role will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of recreational program staff and services, ensuring alignment with program objectives and performance outcomes. Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships with clients while upholding confidentiality.
  • Implementing Universal Precautions and adhering to Standard Protocols and Procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant Federal, State, City, and CAMBA security and privacy policies.
  • Designing and leading recreational and daily living activities to promote social development among participants.
  • Facilitating and instructing physical education, arts, music, or drama sessions.
  • Strategizing and organizing activities to achieve program goals and performance metrics.
  • Coordinating events within the facility and the community, engaging volunteers to enhance program outcomes.
  • Planning and facilitating social support events, including group sessions for clients.
  • Creating and displaying visual materials in public areas of the shelter that reflect cultural and seasonal themes.
  • Maintaining and distributing a calendar of client activities, both internal and external.
  • Documenting client data using the DHS CARES database as required.
  • Providing client escort services when necessary.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, staff, peers, supervisors, and funders.
  • Encouraging teamwork among staff and peers.
  • Addressing and resolving issues faced by clients and staff in accordance with program policies.
  • Collaborating with staff to enhance performance through feedback and training.
  • Motivating and mentoring staff to achieve excellence.
  • Managing resistance to change from clients and staff.
  • Administering constructive feedback and discipline to staff as needed.
  • Effectively managing time and coordinating program activities.
  • Monitoring client progress and documenting outcomes.
  • Participating in administrative and staff meetings as required.
  • Providing necessary information for reports to management and funders.
  • Reviewing and approving timesheets.
  • Conducting performance evaluations for direct reports.
  • Assisting in the preparation of marketing materials for the program.
  • Engaging with the community to promote the program and develop additional resources.
  • Conducting initial client assessments as needed.
  • Performing direct client service responsibilities as required.
  • Adapting tasks as necessary over time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (e.g., B.A., B.S.W.) or equivalent experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must obtain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and Criminal history checks prior to employment.
  • Ability to maintain required clearances throughout employment.
  • First Aid/CPR certification may be required.
  • Certification in overdose prevention may be required.
  • Bi-lingual candidates are preferred.

Compensation: $40,000-$45,000 annually

Salary ranges reflect the low and high end for the position, influenced by factors such as experience, education, and program size.

Status: Full-time (35 hours per week)
