Role Summary: The Residential Support Specialist is responsible for delivering comprehensive care to individuals, empowering them to achieve independence and productivity. This role involves both supervised and unsupervised interactions with residents within their living environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the formulation, development, and execution of individual goals and training programs aimed at enhancing the skills of residents, including but not limited to:
- Financial management
- Personal grooming
- Meal planning
- Public transportation navigation
- Accessing community services
- Shopping skills
- Housekeeping tasks
- Health maintenance
- Adaptive living skills
- Nutritional education
- Career development
- Social skills enhancement
Monitor the progress of residents through essential tasks such as observation, documentation, and physical assistance. Provide training in daily living skills and other relevant areas.
- Coordinate emergency evacuations and ensure the safety of residents during drills and actual emergencies, which may require physical assistance and verbal guidance.
- Oversee and support residents in their self-administration of medications.
Essential skills include effective communication, observation for potential side effects, and monitoring health conditions.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies and adhere to incident reporting protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of resident progress through various documentation methods.
- Engage regularly with residents and the management team to assess goal achievement.
- Facilitate and accompany residents to recreational activities during evenings and weekends, promoting physical engagement.
- Assist in planning and overseeing daily activities and events.
- Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, ensuring availability across different locations and times.
- Communicate pertinent information to team members and supervisors, both verbally and in writing.
- Serve as a positive role model for residents.
- Uphold confidentiality regarding all records and personal information.
- Assist with meal preparation and related tasks.
- Support residents in managing their clothing care.
- Actively contribute as a member of the interdisciplinary planning team.
- Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret various documents and clinical notes.
- Capable of lifting and transporting supplies as needed.
Additional Duties:
- Follow up on aftercare recommendations and accompany residents to necessary appointments.
- Assist residents in identifying and accessing community resources tailored to their needs.
- Be adaptable to changes in work schedules and locations.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisors as necessary.
A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience working with adults with behavioral health challenges or disabilities is preferred.
