Program Overview: The Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) Program, within Lockheed Martin Space, delivers essential launch processing support for government clients. The program encompasses key activities such as spacecraft launch preparations, transportation operations, and maintenance of processing facilities.


As a vital member of our engineering team, you will engage in a diverse range of Mechanical Engineering design and operational responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design, operate, and maintain systems for propellant loading, including instrumentation and data collection to facilitate spacecraft fueling.
  2. Oversee the design, operation, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems essential for spacecraft transportation and launch pad activities.
  3. Conduct mechanical engineering tasks related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems, including controls and distribution systems.
  4. Evaluate system performance and provide recommendations for design modifications or equipment repairs as necessary.
  5. Utilize troubleshooting skills to address mechanical-related challenges and propose effective solutions.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with project specifications and business objectives, delivering comprehensive system-level outcomes.
  7. Lead the development, installation, and operationalization of new hardware and software systems.
  8. Ensure timely project completion within established budget constraints.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to identify technical challenges and offer sound recommendations for system issues and anomaly responses.
  • Hands-on experience in Mechanical Engineering operations and/or maintenance within an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Capability to work in a launch site environment, including the ability to navigate stairs and evacuate the launch complex with necessary safety equipment.
  • Willingness to accommodate periodic travel, overtime, and alternate shifts as required.
  • Experience in drafting technical documents or procedures.
  • Proficiency in presenting technical designs and information effectively.
Security Clearance Statement: This position necessitates a government security clearance; candidates must be U.S. Citizens for consideration.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience in a design-build environment.
  • Familiarity with testing and troubleshooting pneumatic and fluid integrated systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Operational experience with unique, high-value mechanical systems, including those supporting spacecraft transportation and launch operations.
  • Experience in design, build, and test environments.
  • Expertise in test planning, execution, and technical documentation.
  • Experience in conveying technical information to leadership, team members, suppliers, vendors, and government clients.
  • Familiarity with MAXIMO, fluid dynamics, HVAC systems, and solid modeling design using CREO/PRO-E or AutoCAD.
  • Basic structural analysis skills, including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of chemistry, particularly regarding hypergolic fuels and gas systems.
