Electrical Systems Engineer for Launch Operations

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, LAUNCH FACILITIES

The Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in delivering engineering expertise for the design, functionality, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and components within our facilities. This position involves collaboration with local electrical utility personnel to oversee installations and maintenance activities. Our mission is to ensure the safety of both crew and payload as we push the boundaries of space exploration. Are you ready to take on this vital responsibility?

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to create detailed electrical designs and specifications for the installation of:
    • Electrical power distribution networks
    • Switchgear and motor control assemblies
    • Interior and exterior lighting systems
    • Ground support control systems and programming
    • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
    • Emergency and standby power generators
    • Automatic transfer systems
    • Power monitoring systems and software
    • Data and communication wiring
    • Grounding systems for buildings and sites
    • Fire alarm and lightning protection systems
  • Provide electrical engineering assistance to facility technicians for troubleshooting existing electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Support the design, operation, and troubleshooting of all facility electrical components and systems, including:
    • Load flow assessments of electrical distribution systems
    • Evaluation of electrical equipment
    • Grounding for buildings and facilities
    • Power monitoring systems and software
  • Ensure seamless integration of all equipment with other mechanical and electrical systems, including adherence to facility power budgets.
  • Coordinate electrical installations and maintenance with local utility personnel.
  • Guarantee compliance of all electrical designs and installations with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Conduct code reviews and analyses in accordance with NFPA standards and other applicable regulations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in a related role focused on power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS systems, and generators.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS systems, and generators.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting power and control schematics.
  • Ability to understand complex equipment operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and industrial pumping systems.
  • Familiarity with MODBUS communication protocols.
  • Previous experience as an electrician.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage distribution systems.
  • Experience in control panel design and production.
  • Understanding of power coordination and arc flash analysis.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass background checks for security clearance.
  • Capacity to work in a high-stress environment requiring sustained mental focus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Electrical Engineer/Level I: $100,000 - $120,000 per year
Electrical Engineer/Level II: $115,000 - $135,000 per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined based on your qualifications, including job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one component of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also qualify for long-term incentives, including company stock options, discretionary bonuses, and access to a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid parental leave. Additional perks include vacation time and paid holidays.
