ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER, LAUNCH OPERATIONS

The Electrical Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in delivering engineering expertise for the design, operation, and troubleshooting of electrical components and systems within our facilities. This position involves collaboration with local electrical utilities personnel to oversee installations and maintenance activities. Our mission is to ensure the safety of both crew and payload as we strive to explore the cosmos. Are you ready to take on this significant responsibility?

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to create detailed electrical designs and specifications for the installation of various systems, including:
    • Electrical power distribution networks
    • Switchgear and motor control centers
    • Interior and exterior lighting solutions
    • Ground support system controls and ladder logic
    • Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
    • Emergency and standby generators
    • Automatic transfer switches
    • Power monitoring systems
    • Data and communication wiring
    • Grounding systems for buildings and sites
    • Fire alarm and lightning protection systems
  • Provide electrical engineering assistance to facility technicians for troubleshooting existing electrical equipment and controllers.
  • Support the design, operation, and troubleshooting of all facility electrical components and systems, including:
    • Load flow analysis for power distribution
    • Evaluation of electrical equipment
    • Grounding of building and facility equipment
    • Power monitoring systems
  • Ensure proper integration of all equipment with mechanical and electrical systems, ensuring compatibility with facility power budgets.
  • Coordinate electrical installations and maintenance with local electrical utilities personnel.
  • Ensure compliance of all electrical designs and installations with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Conduct code reviews and analyses in accordance with NFPA and IBC standards.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in a similar role focusing on power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS systems, and generators.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in power distribution systems, switchgear, UPS systems, and generators.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting power and control schematics.
  • Ability to understand complex equipment operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and industrial pumps.
  • Familiarity with MODBUS communication controls.
  • Previous experience as an electrician.
  • Knowledge of medium voltage distribution.
  • Experience in control panel design and production.
  • Understanding of power coordination and arc flash principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • High self-motivation and capability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to pass background checks.
  • Capacity to work in a high-concentration, high-stress environment, potentially requiring extended hours.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary range for this position is competitive and based on experience and qualifications. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for long-term incentives, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits including medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, and paid time off.
