Program Overview: The Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) Program at Lockheed Martin Space focuses on providing essential launch processing support for government operations. This includes key activities such as spacecraft launch preparations, transportation operations, and maintenance of processing facilities.


As a vital member of our engineering team, you will engage in various Mechanical Engineering design and operational responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design, operate, and maintain systems for propellant loading, including instrumentation and data collection to facilitate spacecraft fueling operations.
  2. Develop and manage mechanical, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems that are crucial for spacecraft transportation and launch pad activities.
  3. Execute mechanical engineering tasks related to HVAC-R systems, controls, chilled and hot water distribution, and fire suppression systems.
  4. Conduct evaluations of system performance and recommend modifications or repairs as necessary.
  5. Utilize troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve mechanical-related challenges.
  6. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with project specifications and organizational objectives, delivering comprehensive system-level results.
  7. Oversee the development, installation, and operation of new hardware and software systems.
  8. Ensure timely completion of projects within budgetary constraints.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to identify technical challenges and provide effective recommendations for system issues.
  • Hands-on experience in Mechanical Engineering operations or maintenance within an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Capability to work in a launch site environment, including the ability to navigate stairs and utilize safety equipment as needed.
  • Willingness to support travel, overtime, and alternate shifts as required.
  • Experience in drafting technical documents or procedures.
  • Proficiency in presenting technical designs and information effectively.

Security Clearance Requirement: This position necessitates special access, and candidates must be U.S. Citizens with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience in a design-build environment.
  • Familiarity with testing and troubleshooting pneumatic and fluid integrated systems.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Operational experience with unique mechanical systems supporting spacecraft operations.
  • Background in test planning, execution, and documentation.
  • Experience in presenting technical information to various stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with MAXIMO, fluid dynamics, HVAC systems, and solid modeling design software such as CREO/PRO-E and AutoCAD.
  • Basic knowledge of structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Understanding of chemistry, particularly regarding hypergolic fuels and gas systems.
