Position Overview


The Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) Program, within Lockheed Martin Space, is dedicated to providing essential launch processing support for government clients.

Key responsibilities include spacecraft launch preparations, transportation operations, and the maintenance of processing facilities.


As a vital member of our engineering team, you will engage in a range of Mechanical Engineering design and operational responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, operate, and maintain systems for propellant loading, including instrumentation and data collection to facilitate spacecraft fueling operations.
  • Develop, manage, and sustain mechanical, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems essential for spacecraft transportation and launch pad activities.
  • Execute mechanical engineering tasks related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems, along with HVAC controls and water distribution systems.
  • Conduct evaluations of system performance and recommend modifications or repairs as necessary.
  • Utilize troubleshooting skills to address mechanical-related challenges and propose effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines and departments to ensure alignment with project specifications and business objectives, delivering comprehensive system-level results.
  • Oversee the development, installation, and operation of new hardware and software systems.
  • Ensure timely project completion within budgetary constraints.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to identify technical challenges and provide informed recommendations for system issues and anomaly responses.
  • Hands-on experience in Mechanical Engineering operations and/or maintenance within an industrial or commercial setting.
  • Capability to work in a launch site environment, including the ability to navigate stairs and evacuate the launch complex while utilizing safety equipment, if necessary.
  • Willingness to support travel, overtime, and alternate shifts as required.
  • Experience in drafting technical documents or procedures.
  • Background in presenting technical designs and information effectively.


This position requires special access to support the program and mandates that the selected candidate be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
Desired Skills:

  • Experience in a design-build environment.
  • Familiarity with testing and troubleshooting pneumatic and fluid integrated systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Operational experience with unique, high-value mechanical systems, including those supporting spacecraft transportation, propellant loading, and launch pad operations.
  • Experience in a design, build, and test environment.
  • Knowledge of test planning, execution, and technical documentation.
  • Experience in conveying technical information to leadership, team members, suppliers, vendors, and government clients.
  • Familiarity with MAXIMO.
  • Understanding of fluid dynamics.
  • Experience with HVAC systems.
  • Proficiency in solid modeling design using CREO/PRO-E and AutoCAD.
  • Basic structural analysis skills, including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of chemistry, particularly regarding hypergolic fuels and gas systems.
