Position Summary:
The Underwriter plays a crucial role in the assessment, analysis, documentation, pricing, and sales of new commercial property and liability business. This position also involves ensuring the retention of renewals and the ongoing management of the existing portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a portfolio of business by evaluating submissions and making timely decisions in line with established guidelines.
- Maintain organized electronic underwriting files that adhere to company standards.
- Foster strong relationships with assigned brokers through prompt responses and clear communication regarding underwriting decisions.
- Conduct thorough reviews of upcoming renewals, ensuring accurate and timely issuance of nonrenewal notices and renewal quotes.
- Manage the ongoing performance of the existing portfolio.
- Supervise Underwriting Assistants effectively.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Property and Casualty license is preferred; required for California residents.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience with a solid understanding of commercial property and casualty coverages, including the technical principles of rating and pricing.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in Excel and Adobe.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain robust internal and external business relationships.
- Strong negotiation and sales capabilities, with the ability to convey challenging messages effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Attention to detail and a self-motivated work ethic.
- Compensation range: $90,000 - $100,000 annually, depending on experience.
