Commercial Property Underwriter

Position Summary:
The Underwriter plays a crucial role in the evaluation, analysis, documentation, pricing, and sales of new business related to commercial property and liability. This position also involves ensuring the retention of renewals and the effective management of an existing portfolio.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a portfolio of business by assessing submissions and making informed decisions aligned with established guidelines.
- Maintain organized electronic underwriting files in accordance with company protocols.
- Foster strong relationships with assigned brokers by responding promptly to inquiries and clearly communicating underwriting decisions.
- Conduct thorough reviews of upcoming renewals, ensuring timely issuance of nonrenewal notices and renewal quotes.
- Manage ongoing operations of the existing portfolio effectively.
- Supervise Underwriting Assistants to ensure smooth workflow.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
- Property and Casualty license is preferred, and required for California residents.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience with a solid understanding of commercial property/casualty coverages and services.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in Excel and Adobe.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain robust internal and external business relationships.
- Strong negotiation and sales capabilities, with the ability to convey challenging messages effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding organizational and time management abilities.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Attention to detail and a self-motivated work ethic.
- Compensation range: $90,000 - $100,000 annually, depending on experience.
