Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Wastewater Operator in Training/Operator I-II to join our team at Veolia. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our water/wastewater treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Equipment: Tend to automatic and semi-automatic machines and related equipment, including pumps, engines, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, chemical feed, and odor control units.
  • Monitor and Control Processes: Monitor control panels and adjust valves and gates manually or by remote control to regulate flow, and monitor flow meters, gauges, flow ratios, pressures, and related controls through instrument panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units.
  • Record and Report Data: Monitor and record operating conditions, observations, and data in area shift logs, and verify and report suspected malfunctions and variances to supervisors.
  • Perform Routine Maintenance: Perform routine and preventative maintenance, including lubrication and minor adjustments, and perform manual labor, including filling and emptying machine bins and cleaning equipment, facilities, and grounds.
  • Operate Vehicles: Operate vehicles for plant operational purposes.
  • Practice Good Housekeeping: Practice good housekeeping in assigned areas and properly dispose of waste according to safety and environmental policies.
  • Perform Field Tests: Perform field tests, including chemical, physical, and biological tests, to pace chemical dosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.
  • Sample Wastewater and Sludge: Sample wastewater, sludge, and gases according to schedule.
  • Prepare Chemical Solutions: Prepare chemical solutions and service automatic samplers.
  • Monitor Process Chemical Supplies: Monitor process chemical supplies and recommend reorders.
  • Perform Routine Lab Tests: Perform routine lab tests.
  • Perform Instrument Calibration: Perform routine instrument calibration for portable meters, including dissolved oxygen, pH, H2S, percent oxygen, and lower explosive limit.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: High School Diploma/GED required; six months to two years of experience in a related position and environment with knowledge of the methods, techniques, and practices of water/wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to learn and independently operate assigned machines and equipment meeting or exceeding processing and quality targets.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Typically holds or is working toward a first-level treatment certificate; must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Work Environment
  • Physical Demands: Standing 25%, walking 75% for as many as five miles per shift; lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds (occasionally 60 pounds).
  • Work Hazards: May be exposed to possible operations hazards, including fumes, toxic and caustic chemicals, heavy machinery, high pressure, hot or cold work environment temperatures, slippery surfaces, water hazards, and electrical equipment.
