Role Summary
We are seeking a Lead Environmental Biologist to become an integral part of our Environmental Planning and Compliance Division. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about environmental science and thrive in a collaborative setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the preparation of comprehensive natural resource documentation, including Biological Resources Technical Reports, serving as the primary author or senior reviewer.
- Manage projects that encompass various biological analyses, employing innovative strategies to meet client needs.
- Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level biologists, fostering their professional development.
- Act as the main point of contact for clients and regulatory agencies throughout project lifecycles.
- Establish a structured work breakdown to ensure project integrity and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Lead large-scale field initiatives and manage project timelines, ensuring adherence to permit conditions.
- Handle project management tasks such as budgeting, invoicing, and progress tracking.
- Review contracts to ensure clarity on scope, fees, schedules, and deliverables.
- Monitor project financials, making adjustments as necessary to stay on track.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Biology or Ecology.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Southern California.
- Proven expertise in environmental compliance and monitoring.
- Experience conducting wildlife and plant surveys, habitat assessments, and biological reconnaissance.
- Possession of a valid USFWS 10(a)1(A) permit for conducting wildlife protocol surveys.
- Demonstrated ability to lead field survey teams and manage schedules effectively.
- Strong understanding of CEQA, NEPA, and local resource agency requirements.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience in data management and electronic data collection.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project demands.
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with regulatory agency processes and negotiations.
- Experience addressing complex environmental issues.
- Knowledge of ornithology and sensitive bird species.
- Proficiency in identifying native plant species, including rare varieties.
- Skilled in using software such as Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and GIS tools.
Work Environment
The role requires the ability to work in varying environmental conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
