Position Summary

As a Principal Engineer specializing in OpenStack at VeeAR Projects Inc., you will take charge of the design, development, and management of cutting-edge private cloud infrastructures. This role demands a forward-thinking individual capable of delivering innovative technology solutions, drawing from extensive expertise in hardware automation, server orchestration, and large-scale system architecture. Your contributions will be essential in transforming strategic goals into operational successes, playing a crucial role in the advancement of our private cloud initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Architect, implement, and oversee the management of scalable private cloud solutions utilizing OpenStack and Metal as a Service (MaaS).
  • Develop automation workflows for the provisioning and management of bare metal servers in extensive environments.
  • Perform in-depth performance assessments and optimizations of both Metal and Cloud ecosystems, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance tools that automate and streamline infrastructure deployment and operations.
  • Produce high-quality, well-documented code, adhering to OpenSource community standards.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of data protection, disaster recovery, and security strategies across private cloud infrastructures.
  • Drive continuous improvement by keeping abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices, ensuring the architecture's security, stability, and scalability.
  • Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of the developed solutions.
  • Provide leadership across multiple engineering domains.
  • Utilize programming languages such as Python, C#, and other object-oriented languages, alongside SQL and NoSQL databases, as well as container orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Share best practices and enhance processes within and across teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers, offering guidance on cloud infrastructure and best practices in systems management.

Qualifications

  • Expertise in OpenStack components and services.
  • Experience with KVM and Metal as a Service platforms.
  • Proven ability to design and implement complex IT solutions at scale.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills using Python and Go.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) methodologies, particularly Terraform.
  • Proficient in using Ansible for configuration management and deployment.
  • Deep understanding of Linux/Unix systems, including administration and scripting.
  • Solid grasp of networking concepts, protocols, and security measures.
  • Experience with Operating Systems design and deployment, particularly in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud storage technologies, including fiber channel storage and Software Defined Storage solutions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a history of overcoming technical challenges.
  • Strong communication abilities, fostering relationships with team members and stakeholders.

Experience Requirements

  • 6+ years in a similar role, focusing on OpenStack cloud environments and hardware automation.
  • 6+ years of experience in designing, deploying, and managing large-scale private clouds.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems/server management with technologies like Redfish and IPMI.
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud storage solutions integration and configuration.
  • 5+ years of experience with security protocols and products.
  • 4+ years in a collaborative development environment, utilizing modern software development methodologies.
  • 4+ years of scripting/coding experience in languages such as C/C++, Bash, Python, or Go.
  • 4+ years of experience in developing and maintaining large-scale, high-availability systems.
  • 4+ years of active engagement with OpenSource communities.

Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems architecture and design.
  • 6+ years of experience with open-source frameworks.
  • 4+ years of experience with cloud services like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • 3+ years of technical leadership experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
