JOB SUMMARY

The Head of Cloud Infrastructure Solutions will report directly to the VP of Cloud Solutions Engineering and Automation. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the engineering practices that underpin both property-based and centralized services. The incumbent will collaborate closely with key stakeholders and clients, including teams in Infrastructure Automation, Architecture, and Build, to define the Infrastructure strategy and service offerings.

This position will lead the research, analysis, design, and implementation of solutions that contribute to the establishment of Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) within both private and public cloud environments. The role will also involve making critical decisions regarding the development versus procurement of service offerings. A team of infrastructure engineers specializing in compute, storage, and capacity will report to this position, ensuring that engineering specifications support Marriott's business applications across various cloud platforms.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/certifications.
  • 8+ years in an IT operational capacity supporting mission-critical solutions, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within an infrastructure organization.
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Engineering roles focused on storage, compute, and virtualization.
    • Complex IT systems, data center infrastructure, and software.
    • Security protocols and systems hardening techniques for PCI and PII data protection.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting business services in public cloud environments.
  • 3+ years of experience with any of the following:
    • Public Clouds/Virtual Private Clouds:
      • Amazon Web Services (AWS) / EC2
      • Microsoft Azure
      • Ali Cloud
    • Private Cloud Infrastructure:
      • OpenStack
      • VMware / vRealize / VMware Integrated OpenStack

The ideal candidate will also possess:

  • Expertise in designing global architectures that ensure high service availability.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • A solid understanding of:
    • Operating Systems
    • Virtualization Hypervisors
    • Software Defined Data Centers
    • Enterprise-grade Datacenter Compute Hardware
    • Storage Solutions: SAN, NAS, Object Storage, HDFS
    • Networking protocols and architectures
    • Applications/Frameworks such as Tomcat, Play, NginX, JavaEE, or HTML5
    • Processes including DevSecOps and CI/CD
  • Experience with core enterprise applications and application development tools.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and API-driven infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a technical field.
  • Experience with application integration technologies (microservices, Web Services, REST).
  • Leadership experience in establishing Cloud Centers of Excellence (CCoE).
  • Familiarity with contractual language related to IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.
  • Relevant Cloud Certifications.
  • Knowledge of both relational and non-relational database technologies.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies.
  • Experience in the retail or hospitality sector.
  • Proficiency in developing strategic IT technologies and processes.
  • Experience in technology roadmapping and strategy development.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Provides strategic direction and governance for Infrastructure services to facilitate IT service delivery.
  • Defines the architecture and governance model for Marriott's infrastructure.
  • Leads the technical standardization and validation of the Enterprise Infrastructure environment.
  • Researches and implements high-performing software components that are standards-based and secure.
  • Educates users on technology best practices to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Participates in the evaluation and selection of infrastructure products.
  • Collaborates with architecture teams to align technology plans with project deliverables.
  • Conducts analyses of the current environment to identify deficiencies and recommend improvements.
  • Stays informed on industry trends to assess their impact on infrastructure architecture.
  • Supports Solution and Domain Architecture by providing technology direction for projects.
  • Oversees documentation of architecture design and analysis.

  • Provides guidance to teams on project priorities and resource allocation.
  • Analyzes information to determine the best solutions for challenges.
  • Implements innovative plans and programs to achieve objectives.

  • Collaborates with team members to develop and implement strategies.
  • Ensures timely communication of results and challenges to stakeholders.

  • Conducts interviews and hires qualified candidates.
