Founded in 1996, the Mt. Sinai Health Foundation is a philanthropic organization dedicated to enhancing the health of both the Jewish and broader communities in Greater Cleveland.

With an annual grantmaking budget of approximately $8 million, the Foundation focuses on four key areas:
1. Academic Medicine and Bioscience
2. Health of the Jewish Community
3. Health of the Urban Community
4. Health Policy

Our mission emphasizes primary prevention and early intervention to tackle the most urgent health challenges in Greater Cleveland, promoting health equity and investing in the well-being of children and families. The Foundation also plays a vital role in advocating for policy changes that support health improvements at a systemic level.

The Opportunity
The Mt. Sinai Health Foundation is in search of a dynamic and collaborative Senior Vice President, who will oversee all facets of the Foundation's grantmaking strategy and operations. This role includes supervising a small team of program officers and a grants/database manager, reporting directly to the Foundation's President.

The Senior Vice President will be integral to managing the Foundation's responsive grantmaking process and will collaborate with various stakeholders to devise and implement strategic investment plans aimed at enhancing health outcomes, particularly for underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the President to formulate grantmaking strategies that target health improvements in Greater Cleveland, focusing on low-income communities.
  • Provide leadership to address health disparities affecting communities of color and other significant health issues.
  • Explore how donor-designated funds can be leveraged for advancements in teaching and research medicine, enhancing Cleveland's reputation in academic medicine and bioscience.
  • Lead advocacy efforts alongside government partners to drive policy changes that benefit the health of Greater Cleveland residents.
  • Work with community organizations to identify opportunities for health improvements within the Jewish community.
  • Supervise program staff in advising grant-seekers and assessing grant proposals.
  • Develop and present funding recommendations to senior staff and the Board.
  • Facilitate site visits with prospective grantees to inform grantmaking decisions.
  • Provide ongoing support to grantee-partners throughout the grant implementation process.
  • Assist in research and analysis to develop proactive grantmaking strategies.
  • Convene public, private, and philanthropic organizations to foster partnerships that address community-wide health agendas.
  • Analyze past grant partnerships to identify new opportunities for funding.
  • Generate reports on various projects and contribute to evaluating the Foundation's grantmaking efforts.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in public health, health policy, and philanthropy.
