WSP is embarking on a search for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer specializing in Underground Projects to enhance our team. Join us in our mission to deliver innovative solutions for our clients in the mining sector.

In this pivotal role, you will offer geotechnical engineering expertise and support for projects across the globe, collaborating with our Mining Engineering and Stability Team. You will spearhead the development and enhancement of a multidisciplinary mine stability team, utilizing advanced technical methodologies and problem-solving skills, while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of rock mechanics to address the intricate challenges faced by our surface and underground mining clientele.

Your Contributions
  • Provide expert consultation on both open pit and underground mining initiatives for a diverse range of clients.
  • Oversee various mining rock mechanics management projects, encompassing field investigations, laboratory testing, design and construction, geotechnical assessments, and dam safety evaluations.
  • Lead and review geotechnical analyses with a focus on rock mechanics, offering specialized technical guidance.
  • Ensure quality control and risk management during geotechnical and design processes, including thorough review of results in collaboration with senior management.
  • Direct or manage large-scale, complex, and multidisciplinary projects in alignment with client-approved scopes, delivering high-quality reports and drawings punctually and within budget.
  • Advise mining operations on best practices and strategies.
  • Foster existing client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
  • Prepare or review technical proposals and design work packages tailored to client requirements.
  • Mentor and coach junior and intermediate staff to support their professional growth.
  • Engage in recruitment, performance evaluations, and training initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of WSP's mining business strategy.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the Global Mining team to drive business growth and maintain robust client relationships.
  • Promote a culture of safety and compliance within the team.
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
  • A degree in mining, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
  • 8-12+ years of relevant experience in a consulting engineering or mining industry setting.
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Proficiency in rock mechanics and geological engineering, with a specific technical focus.
  • Exceptional technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering or technical services capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain solid client relationships.
  • Strong business acumen and leadership capabilities.
  • Client-focused project management and business development skills.
  • Proficient in risk management and possess sound engineering judgment.
  • Adept at delegating tasks and leading diverse, interdisciplinary project teams.
