Position Summary
WSP is seeking a full-time Senior Mining Engineer to contribute to our Mine Engineering & Stability Team. This role is pivotal in ensuring that we meet our clients' goals and address their challenges effectively. You will be part of a dynamic organization that prides itself on delivering high-quality technical solutions for mineral project development in a safe, economical, and responsible manner.

Your Contributions
  • Lead technical initiatives by conducting strategic modeling, design, and engineering analyses, including interactive mine design and sequencing with various mine modeling software.
  • Execute a comprehensive range of mine engineering tasks, such as:
    • Detailed design of both open pit and underground mines.
    • Engineering trade-off evaluations.
    • Cost estimation and economic analysis of various alternatives.
    • Preparation of technical documentation, including public disclosure documents for Mineral Resources and Reserves.
  • Support both engineering and geological aspects of projects as required.
  • Implement WSP's Project Management standards to oversee all project dimensions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical personnel to cultivate the skills and procedures necessary for effective engineering and consulting assignments.
  • Act as an internal technical resource, providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Mentor team members to foster their professional growth.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as dictated by business needs.

Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-educational experience in engineering, focusing on open pit and/or underground mine planning, design, and scheduling.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Experience in a consulting engineering role or technical services within a mining company.
  • Strong technical writing abilities, with experience in crafting proposals and technical reports.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and strategic planning skills.
  • Proficiency in mine planning, design, and scheduling software such as MineScape, MineSight 3D, Vulcan, Surpac, Deswik, Datamine, Gemcom, Mine 2-4D, and EPS.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients, regulators, project managers, and colleagues at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently while providing guidance to junior team members, adhering to QA/QC standards.
  • Experience in critically reviewing documents and preparing complex technical deliverables.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to derive conclusions from testing results and data analysis.
  • Ability to direct subcontractors and field personnel to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP's health, safety, and conduct policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules aligned with project-specific requirements.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary for project needs, including international and remote locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Professional Licensure/Certification.
