Opportunity Summary

WSP is actively seeking a Lead Mining Engineer to contribute to our engineering projects. This role involves collaborating with our Mine Engineering and Stability Team, playing a crucial part in a dynamic organization that addresses client needs and resolves complex challenges.

Your Contributions
  • Serve as the technical authority, guiding and nurturing high-performing teams in underground hard-rock mine design and planning.
  • Lead strategic modeling, design, and engineering analysis tasks, utilizing advanced mine modeling software for interactive hard rock underground mine design and sequencing.
  • Oversee a comprehensive range of underground hard rock engineering functions, including:
    • In-depth mine design
    • Engineering trade-off evaluations
    • Cost estimation and economic analysis of alternatives
    • Preparation of technical documentation, including public disclosure materials for Mineral Resources and Reserves
  • Support both engineering and geological aspects of projects as required.
  • Implement WSP's Project Management standards to oversee all project facets.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical personnel to enhance skills and procedures for effective delivery of engineering and consulting projects.
  • Act as an internal technical resource, providing mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Guide staff in their professional growth and development.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as dictated by business requirements.
Candidate Profile
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in mining engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Engineer license is mandatory (multi-state preferred).
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant post-education experience in underground hard rock engineering, with a focus on mine planning, design, and scheduling.
  • Experience in consulting as an underground hard rock mining engineer or in a technical services role within a mining organization.
  • Proficient in technical writing in English, with experience in drafting proposals and technical reports.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Familiarity with mine planning, design, and scheduling software such as MineSight 3D, Vulcan, Deswik, Datamine, etc.
  • Understanding of key technical requirements for pre-feasibility and feasibility studies related to mining and public disclosure documents (NI 43-101, S-K 1300, JORC).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, able to convey complex ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with clients, regulators, project managers, and team members at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work independently while providing leadership to mid-level and senior project members, adhering to QA/QC standards.
  • Proficient in technical writing, office automation, and discipline-specific design software and tools.
  • Experienced in critically reviewing documents and preparing complex technical deliverables and plans.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, capable of applying technical knowledge to derive conclusions from data analysis and testing results.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various schedules to meet business needs and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and to remote project sites.

Compensation:
Expected Salary Range: $92,800 - $155,210 (Colorado only).
