Your Role

WSP is initiating a search for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. You will engage with our Mine Engineering and Stability, Earth & Environment Team, contributing to a dynamic organization that addresses client needs and resolves challenges.

Your Contributions
  • Offer expert consultation on both open pit and underground mining projects for clients globally.
  • Oversee a range of mining rock mechanics management projects, including field investigations, laboratory testing, design, construction, geotechnical analysis, and dam safety evaluations.
  • Conduct and review geotechnical analyses, focusing on rock mechanics, while providing specialized technical expertise.
  • Ensure quality control and risk management during geotechnical and design tasks, coordinating closely with Principals.
  • Lead large, complex, and multidisciplinary projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports and drawings within budget.
  • Advise mining operations effectively.
  • Maintain and cultivate client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
  • Prepare or review technical proposals and design work packages tailored to client requirements.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff, supporting their professional growth.
  • Engage in hiring, performance evaluations, and training initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of WSP's mining business strategy.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the Global Mining team to implement growth strategies and build client relationships.
  • Promote a culture of safety in all operations.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as business needs arise.
Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications
  • A degree in geotechnical, mining, or geological engineering.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in consulting engineering or the mining sector.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Expertise in rock mechanics and geological engineering.
  • Strong technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in consulting or technical services.
  • Proven ability to foster solid client relationships.
  • Familiarity with numerical modeling software, such as Rocscience and Itasca, is advantageous.
  • Strong project management and business development capabilities.
  • Excellent risk management and engineering judgment.
  • Ability to lead diverse project teams effectively.
  • Business acumen and leadership qualities.
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills for engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated self-leadership and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independently manage tasks while providing guidance to junior team members.
  • Proficient in technical writing and various engineering software.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coordinate subcontractors efficiently.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP's policies.
  • Flexibility to meet project-specific scheduling needs.
  • Willingness to travel as required by project demands.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in geotechnical, mining, or geological engineering.
  • Relevant Professional Licensure/Certification.
