Lead Engineer for Underground Geotechnical Solutions

About the Role
WSP is excited to announce an opportunity for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer specializing in Underground Projects to join our dynamic team. This role involves collaboration with our Mine Engineering & Stability Team, contributing to a variety of global projects aimed at addressing client challenges and achieving their objectives.
Your Contributions
- Deliver expert consultation on both open pit and underground mining initiatives for clients across the globe.
- Oversee diverse mining rock mechanics projects, which encompass field investigations, laboratory assessments, design and construction phases, geotechnical evaluations, and dam safety reviews.
- Lead and assess geotechnical analyses with a focus on rock mechanics, providing specialized technical expertise.
- Ensure quality control and risk management throughout geotechnical and design processes, collaborating closely with senior leadership.
- Manage complex, large-scale projects in alignment with client-approved scopes, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports and drawings.
- Advise mining operations to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Foster existing client relationships while identifying new business opportunities.
- Review and finalize technical proposals and design packages tailored to client requirements.
- Mentor junior and intermediate staff, supporting their professional growth and career development.
- Engage in recruitment, performance evaluations, and training initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and execution of WSP's mining business strategy.
- Collaborate with senior members of the Global Mining team to implement business growth strategies and maintain robust client relationships.
- Promote a culture centered on safety and well-being.
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A degree in mining, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
- 8-12+ years of relevant experience in consulting engineering or the mining sector.
- Current registration as a Professional Engineer.
- In-depth knowledge of rock mechanics and geological engineering.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in a consulting or technical services capacity.
- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain solid client relationships.
- Strong leadership and business acumen.
- Exceptional project management and business development capabilities.
- Ability to manage risks effectively and demonstrate sound engineering judgment.
- Proficiency in delegating tasks and leading diverse project teams.
- Multilingual skills are a plus.
