Opportunity Summary
WSP is actively seeking a Lead Underground Geotechnical Engineer to enhance our team. This role is pivotal in our Mine Engineering & Stability division, contributing to a variety of projects that address client needs and technical challenges.
Your Contributions
- Deliver expert consultation on both open pit and underground mining initiatives for clients across the globe.
- Oversee diverse mining rock mechanics projects, including field assessments, laboratory evaluations, design processes, geotechnical studies, and dam safety reviews.
- Lead and assess geotechnical evaluations with a strong emphasis on rock mechanics, providing specialized technical insights.
- Ensure quality control and risk management throughout geotechnical and design activities, collaborating closely with senior management.
- Manage large-scale, intricate, and multidisciplinary projects, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports and drawings in alignment with client specifications.
- Advise mining operations to enhance efficiency and safety.
- Foster existing client relationships while identifying new business prospects.
- Prepare and review technical proposals and design documentation tailored to client requirements.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, supporting their professional growth.
- Engage in recruitment, performance evaluations, and training initiatives.
- Contribute to the strategic development and execution of WSP's mining business objectives.
- Collaborate with senior members of the Global Mining team to drive business growth and maintain a robust client network.
- Promote a culture centered around safety and operational excellence.
Required Skills and Experience
- A degree in mining, geotechnical, or geological engineering.
- 8-12+ years of relevant experience in consulting engineering or the mining sector.
- Current registration as a Professional Engineer.
- In-depth knowledge of rock mechanics and geological engineering.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Experience in consulting or technical services roles.
- Proven track record in client relationship management.
- Strong leadership capabilities and business acumen.
- Ability to manage risks effectively and demonstrate sound engineering judgment.
- Proficient in delegating tasks and leading diverse project teams.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus.
