The Johns Hopkins University Department of Otolaryngology is in search of a HR Generalist to oversee and manage the human resources functions for the departments of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, as well as Oral Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry.

This role will report directly to the department Administrator, ensuring the seamless and effective operation of the departments as a cohesive unit. The position includes the management of HR activities related to faculty, staff, and student human resources, along with payroll responsibilities, encompassing medical staff and academic appointments at JHU.

Key Responsibilities

Human Resources Management

  • Provide comprehensive human resources support and consulting services to faculty, staff, students, and administration in areas such as recruitment, risk management, diversity initiatives, and professional development opportunities.
  • Act as the primary contact for faculty and staff regarding HR policies and procedures, addressing most inquiries with information and guidance.

Employment Coordination

  • Facilitate the employment process by collaborating with faculty, staff, and university offices to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Advise on appropriate salary levels for new hires and promotions to maintain equity.
  • Conduct internal job comparisons for equity assessments and serve as a liaison with Central HR's employment recruiters.
  • Manage visa processes for international hires and develop job descriptions for new roles.
  • Conduct interviews and reference checks as necessary.

HR Management

  • Provide counsel on HR policies related to recruitment, employment, and leave management.
  • Coordinate efforts for staff requiring Family Medical Leave (FMLA) in collaboration with divisional administration.
  • Engage with leadership to develop divisional policies that align with university standards.

Employee Relations

  • Address workplace complaints through investigation and information gathering.
  • Consult with management on disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Conduct exit interviews and manage the transition process for departing employees.

Payroll and Compensation

  • Review payroll documentation for compliance with budgetary constraints.
  • Process payroll transactions and ensure timely and accurate payroll for all personnel.
  • Coordinate merit review processes and maintain personnel records.

Credentialing Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Credentialing Coordinator, managing the processing requirements for faculty and clinical associates.
  • Ensure timely processing of credentialing verification and issuance of clinical privileges.

Financial Oversight

  • Assist with financial reporting related to faculty salaries and resolve salary discrepancies.
  • Prepare reports on internal equity and participate in the maintenance of salary accounts.

Training and Development

  • Train new staff on payroll processing and HR policies.
  • Coordinate ongoing training for employees on relevant regulations and programs.

Internal Contacts

  • Collaborate with various internal departments including HR Business Services, Dean's Office, and Medical Staff Office.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee the work of the Senior HR Coordinator and HR Coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience in a professional HR capacity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SAP HR transactions.
