The RF & Microwave Design Engineering Manager will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing a team of RF & Microwave Design Engineers in the creation and advancement of intricate solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs) and multifunction modules (MFMs) aimed at defense and space applications, which encompass wideband frequency converters, synthesizers, high-isolation switches, noise sources, phase shifters, power detectors, and variable gain amplifiers.
  • Managing personnel growth, spearheading new business initiatives, and ensuring the successful design, development, and transition of new products into production.
  • Enhancing employee development and operational efficiencies within the SSPA and Space Component design group to align with company objectives. Engaging in recruitment and team enhancement activities.
  • Leading technical efforts in the design of RF architectures and systems utilizing chain analysis and frequency planning tools, primarily through VSS.
  • Designing RF components with tools such as ADS, MWO, HFSS, Sonnet, Spice, or Cadence.
  • Assessing and selecting devices suitable for applications while meeting customer specifications, including the design or utilization of LNAs, PAs, filters, mixers, frequency multipliers, isolators, couplers, and phase-locked oscillators and synthesizers.
  • Conducting trade studies focused on noise figure, power compression, spurious emissions, and bandwidth.
  • Executing hardware layout, component assessment, prototype development, and testing.
  • Formulating test methodologies and specifications, analyzing, and testing hardware to validate performance.
  • Leading design reviews such as PDR, CDR, and PRR, and delivering presentations to management and clients. Guiding project design teams.
  • Providing insights on technological trends and contributing to our competitive edge in the industry, particularly regarding SWaP enhancements.

Essential Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of devices, circuitry, and systems functioning at RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Capability to design circuits for high-frequency receivers, transmitters, and signal generation, with experience in design tools like MWO, ADS, HFSS, Sonnet, Spice, or Cadence.
  • Understanding of signal routing and packaging technologies for devices and subassemblies.
  • Ability to conceptualize initial component and system designs through schematics and block diagrams; lead project teams in assembly, testing, debugging, and optimization; and organize results for design reviews and client presentations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with excellent presentation capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required; MSEE is preferred.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in the Microwave & RF sector, particularly at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Experience with Space Products is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in managing and developing technical personnel.
  • Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities with a knack for innovative solutions.
  • Proficient lab skills with testing equipment, and the ability to tune and align circuitry.
  • Familiarity with Matlab, Mathcad, or programming languages for complex analyses.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as AWR's Microwave Office or ADS is essential.
  • Knowledge of HFSS, CST, and/or Sonnet for EM simulation is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills are necessary, with involvement in preparing technical proposals to support new business ventures.
  • Regularly presenting to clients and executive management is expected.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team, demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong organizational skills to meet project goals and deadlines while leading multiple project design teams and proposal tasks concurrently.
  • Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain a Security Clearance.
