The RF & Microwave Design Engineering Manager will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of RF & Microwave Design Engineers in the creation and advancement of intricate solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs) and multifunction modules (MFMs) for defense and aerospace applications, encompassing wideband frequency converters, synthesizers, high-isolation switches, noise sources, phase shifters, power detectors, and variable gain amplifiers.
  • Overseeing personnel development, crafting new business proposals, and ensuring the successful design, development, and transition of new products into production.
  • Enhancing employee growth and operational efficiencies within the SSPA and Space Component design group, aligning with corporate objectives. Engaging in recruitment and team development initiatives.
  • Taking charge of technical responsibilities, including the design of RF architectures and systems utilizing chain analysis and frequency planning tools, primarily through VSS.
  • Designing RF components using tools such as ADS, MWO, HFSS, Sonnet, Spice, or Cadence.
  • Evaluating and selecting appropriate devices for various applications, ensuring they meet customer specifications—this includes the design or application of LNAs, PAs, filters, mixers, frequency multipliers, isolators, couplers, and phase-locked oscillators and synthesizers.
  • Conducting trade studies focusing on noise figure, power compression, spurious emissions, and bandwidth.
  • Executing hardware layout, component assessment, prototype assembly, and testing.
  • Formulating test methodologies and specifications, analyzing and testing hardware to confirm performance standards.
  • Leading Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), and Preliminary Review Reviews (PRR), while delivering presentations to management and clients. Guiding project design teams.
  • Providing insights on technological trends and contributing to our competitive edge in the industry, particularly regarding Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) improvements.

Essential Skills:

  • In-depth experience with devices, circuitry, and systems functioning at RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Capability to design circuitry for high-frequency receivers, transmitters, and signal generation, with proficiency in design tools such as MWO, ADS, HFSS, Sonnet, Spice, or Cadence.
  • Understanding of signal routing and packaging technologies for devices and subassemblies.
  • Ability to visualize initial component and system designs through schematics and block diagrams; lead project teams in assembly, testing, debugging, and optimization; and organize results for design reviews and client presentations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong presentation capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required; a Master's Degree (MSEE) is preferred.
  • 15+ years of professional experience in the Microwave & RF sector, specifically at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies.
  • Experience with Space Products is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in managing and developing technical personnel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a knack for innovative solutions.
  • Proficient lab skills using testing equipment, with the ability to tune and align circuitry.
  • Competence in using Matlab, Mathcad, or programming languages for complex analyses.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as AWR's Microwave Office or ADS is essential.
  • Familiarity with HFSS, CST, and/or Sonnet for electromagnetic simulation is a plus.
  • Exceptional communication skills are necessary, as participation in the preparation of technical proposals to support new business opportunities is expected.
  • Frequent presentations to customers and executive management will be required.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team, demonstrating flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to personal excellence and adherence to high corporate ethical standards.
  • Organizational skills to meet project goals and deadlines while leading multiple project design teams and proposal tasks concurrently.
  • Must be a US Citizen and capable of obtaining a Security Clearance.
