Position Overview:

As the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will oversee multiple engineering teams, including Mechanical, Test, NPI, CAD, and Document Control. Your leadership will be crucial in directing the design and development of complex custom integrated microwave assemblies (IMAs) and microwave amplifiers. You will also ensure effective management of our Document Control team, facilitating the smooth operation of our electronic document control system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the Mechanical and Test Engineering teams in the design and development of intricate custom IMAs and microwave amplifiers.
  • Guide the NPI Engineering team to ensure smooth transitions of products into production.
  • Oversee the Document Control team to manage released documents effectively and maintain our electronic document control system.
  • Enhance employee development and operational efficiency within the mechanical design group, aligning efforts with organizational goals. Lead initiatives for standardization of best practices and participate in recruitment and team development.
  • Manage and improve the operations of the mechanical, test, and NPI engineering teams, including:
  • Creation and evaluation of mechanical concepts for new business proposals.
  • Successful execution of mechanical design, development, validation, and production release of new products.
  • Investigation and standardization of enhanced mechanical structures and techniques for improved cost and performance.
  • Design and verification of automated test equipment (ATE).
  • Planning and execution of product transfers to production, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality manufacturing.
  • Drive improvements in methodologies and procedures for greater efficiency.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of new mechanical concepts aimed at improving size, weight, and power (SWaP), automation, reliability, and design cycle time.
  • Design, analyze, and present effective mechanical construction proposals for new products, supporting the team's mechanical analysis and product development efforts.
  • Develop test methods and specifications, analyze and test hardware to confirm performance.
  • Facilitate design reviews, including PDR, CDR, and PRR, and deliver presentations to management and clients.
  • Oversee the design of effective ATE, execute design verification testing, and ensure efficient product transfer from engineering to production.
  • Provide insights on technology trends to enhance competitive positioning, focusing on SWaP improvements, acceleration of time-to-market, and meeting evolving customer needs.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution is required. Candidates with a Master's degree will be preferred.
  • Over 15 years of experience in microelectronics packaging, microwave testing, and the qualification/transfer of microwave products for production.
  • Expertise in RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave frequency subsystem mechanical design, analysis, validation, and automation.
  • Ability to design and analyze hardware suitable for combat, flight, and space environments.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as ANSYS, Labview, and Solidworks, along with electronic documentation and ERP platforms.
  • Capability to conceptualize initial subsystem designs, articulate their competitiveness, and lead the team towards successful development.
  • Experience in organizing design reviews and customer presentations, strategizing efficiency improvements, and leading change effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, with proficiency in verbal, written, and presentation formats.
  • Previous experience in managing and developing technical personnel.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a knack for innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency in mechanical design software such as Solidworks.
  • Experience with Ansys mechanical analysis or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Strong testing skills in design validation, optimization, design of experiments, and HALT/HASS testing, with experience in space qualification testing being a plus.
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation packages (like Arena or Agile) and streamlining documentation design activities is also beneficial.
  • Experience in driving technical innovation and manufacturing automation of microelectronic assemblies.
  • Must be a US Citizen and capable of obtaining Security Clearance.
